| Nebula05-23-07, 06:24 AM | i red what PHB says about the 5 feet step at page 144 (among the miscellaneous action). does it mean that i can take a 5 ft step in a surprise round too, even if i can only do a standard action (obviously if i hadn't already moved and i'm not going to in this round)? |
| sirkently05-23-07, 09:51 AM | You could move 5' as your standard action, but you don't get the standard 5' foot move you get when you take a full round action. |

Yes. You can take a 5' step before or after the standard action. Baring something which would otherwise prevent you from taking a 5' step -- rough terrain, darkness, etc. -- or if you used your standard action to take a move. |
| Inigo Carmine05-23-07, 10:08 AM | You can take a 5-ft step as a non-action in any round that you make no other movement. This includes suprise rounds or when you are disabled. |

| Vegepygmy05-24-07, 12:00 AM | Not exactly. When you are disabled, you are generally prone.Wherever did you get that idea? "Disabled" means you have exactly 0 hit points, and are restricted to a single move or standard action each round. It has nothing to do with being prone. A 5' step when prone is a move action. You cannot take a 5-foot step while prone. You can crawl 5 feet as a move action while prone, but that is in no way a "5-foot step." |

Yes. Disabled A character with 0 hit points, or one who has negative hit points but has become stable and conscious, is disabled. A disabled character may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can she take full-round actions). She moves at half speed. Taking move actions doesn’t risk further injury, but performing any standard action (or any other action the game master deems strenuous, including some free actions such as casting a quickened spell) deals 1 point of damage after the completion of the act. Unless the action increased the disabled character’s hit points, she is now in negative hit points and dying. If you are disabled, you are not unconscious or necessarily prone. |
