09-29-07, 10:32 AM suppose i'm a cleric4/contemplative4. the contemplative doesn't improve the cleric turning ability.
how many hit dice has the most powerful undead i can turn with my best roll? 8 or 12?
and how many are my turning damages? 2d16 + 8 + charisma or 2d6 + 4 + charisma?

It's based on your Cleric level, (which some other classes also contribute towards). If Contemplative does nothing for your Cleric level for Turning, then you are just a level 4 Cleric as far as the Turn Undead ability is concerned, so the maximum possible Turn Check is 8 (Cleric Level + 4 on a Turning Check of 22+).

Your Turn Damage is also based on your effective Cleric Level, so the maximum Turning Damage would be 2d6 + 4(your Cleric levels) + Charisma modifier.

There are some items and other abilities which might boost your Turning though.

09-29-07, 11:36 AM i'd like to take the air domain, but it wouldn't be not so smart if i can't improve at least my turnig check. do you know some feats than can help me, something like practiced spellcaster but for turning undead?

Heighten undead will increase the turn check, but will cost you turning damage. Check the complete divine.

Phylactery of Undead Turning (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#phylacteryofUndeadTurn ing) is a necklace-slot item that increases your effective cleric level by 4 for purposes of turning.

well, i don't need check bonus, but cleric level bonus. something like ph improved turning but more powerful, even with hd limitation (like practiced spellcaster).

mmm, i don't think so, thor. i'd never not be able no turn unded with more hd than my cleric level +4, whatever my charisma is.
