Armor is a worn item, so it generally will not be affected. If an item says "acid resistance 10", then that item always benefits from acid resistance 10. Against any attack that says 'acid', you get that proteciton. If the Ooze in question says 'acid', then it is protected by that 10. If the ooze does NOT say acid, then it is not protected. Just because something dissolves something does not make it acid. Water disolves sugar and it is not acid. All the oozes in the MM do say acid (but gelatinous cube and ochre jelly do not effect metals). None of them state they do particular damage to worn items, so they don't damage your |

If the energy resistance you possess is from an external source (a spell, a magical item, etc.) than you AND your equipment are preotected. Spells and magical items that grant energyu resistance specifically state that your equipment is protected. However, innate energy resistance (such as that by fiends) does not have such a stipulation (look up the term energy resistance in the MM), so if you have innate/natural energy resistance, your equipment is NOT protected--just you. For example, a wizard with Resist Energy (fire) cast upon him takes a swim in lava pool. If he is lucky enough to roll low on the damage for a couple rounds, than he will effectively take none and his clothes will be perfectly fine when he emrges from the lava. A balor going swimming in lava will take no damage, but his clothes and equipment, if any, will be incinerated long before he emerges from the pool. I hope that helps. |

It's called an amphoteric (sp? pretty sure I got that right) substance, something that's both a base and an acid. Chemically speaking, any substance that begins with Hydrogen is considered an acid. Also, substances that end with a combination of HO (hydrogen and oxygen) is special kind of acid...but it's been a little while since high school Chemistry. |

Pretty much, except those ending in OH (hydroxide) are a base. The H2O of water could be (and sometimes is) written HOH, but it doesn't really work as an acid or a base. |

It may not behave like an acid or base is expected to always, but it's still fun to talk about. Imagine someone's expression when you offer them a glass of Hydro-Oxic acid? Or when you say you're going to drink an ampoteric substance? On a completely unrelated note...HCL (Hydro-Chloric acid) tastes like lemonade.:P Ok, I'm done thread hijacking...:D |
