The DMG specifically mentions the benefits for light, medium and heavy armor as well as weapons, but nothing is specifically mentioned benefit-wise for shields other than increased HP and hardness. If so, where can I reference this information? I have a character who recently received a +1 Heavy Adamantine Shield, but have no plans to take Shield Bash or any other feats that would allow me to use it as a weapon. |

| DragonBringerX08-07-06, 12:44 AM | i would say it does +2 damage as adam. weapons do if u bash |

It's made of adamantium, so if you use it for a Shield Bash, it's an adamant weapon for the purposes for DR and the +1 enhancement bonus. Apart from that and the increased hardness and HP, there are no defensive bonuses for an adamant shield - though there are style benefits :D |
| RavenDrake08-07-06, 07:49 AM | Personally, I houseruled that Shields made of Adamantine add +3,150gp to the base price of the shield. Why? Adamantine is automatically Masterwork, and shields count as weapons(even if you don't use them as such). So you pay the weapon price plus the cost of masterwork for an Adamantine shield. (Note that the price for making a masterwork WEAPON is included in the base 3,000gp for a weapon, not so for shield). At this point, however, you have a sheild that has Adamantine hardness and hitpoints, functions as Adamantine for a weapon(in case you suddenly need it, such as coming unexpectedly on a golem) is hard to sunder, and grants not only a +1 enhancement bonus on attacks, but has -1 ACP. And is fully ready for enchantment as a weapon or a shield. |
