Does it just completely ignore the tower shield? What if it's not adamantine? I know cover is a new concept in D&D but I don't see any rules addressing firing through objects. In this book it says this about total cover If you don’t have line of effect to your target he is considered to have total cover from you. You can’t make an attack against a target that has total cover.Do I have line of effect? I don't know, that depends whether or not my arrow can penetrate his shield. |

Adamatium is incredibly hard, not incredibly sharp. why should it ignore the tower shield? the person hiding behind the Tower SHield has cover as per the rules listed for Tower Shields (which is not full cover I don't think). you group may have a bit of a misconception fo just what adamantium can do.. it's not a mono-molecular edge or anything. if it was, it'd give increased damage & criticals. |
| otomik02-26-05, 12:56 PM | over here it says total cover http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/armor.htm#shieldTower adamantine bypasses hardness, I never said it was sharp, I'm not thinking Dikote or anything, bullets aren't sharp either. |

Bypassing hardness really only applies to sunder attempts. And indeed, you can sunder with a ranged weapon. There are various feats/magic enhancements that let you do it. Basically, you deal half damage for the purpose of beating hardness/working down the item's HP. However, as adamantine bypasses hardness, you'd just be working on hitpoints. I'm a bit fuzzy on the rest of the rules for ranged sunders. Oh, and to answer your original question, no you won't have line of effect with them. You'll only hit him if you beat his total AC. He only has total cover if he's not fighting anything and hiding behind the shield. |

Divide the damage dealt by 2 before applying the object’s hardness.I guess that's an answer but it's not too satisfying, nothing gets through until that entire shield is destroyed, I think there's a market for shoji screen shields in D&D. |
