| BirthRight11-16-05, 02:39 PM | Sorry people I don't have a book with me (Im in class), so this question is strictly from memory. What would the benifit be of an adamantine shield be? The Price isn't listed in the DMs Guide, and I find it hard to belive that the only benifit is that it is harder to sunder. Is it like armor where it gives DR, or like a weapon where it increases its effectiveness? Thanks All |

The Price isn't listed in the DMs Guide, Since shields can be used as weapons, I'd use the +3,000 cost that applies to weapons. and I find it hard to belive that the only benifit is that it is harder to sunder. Is it like armor where it gives DR, or like a weapon where it increases its effectiveness? It doesn't give damage reduction, but it would turn the shield into an adamantine bludgeoning weapon. | Rulebook11-17-05, 01:30 PM | its also gods tough to sunder now. |
| Vestigial_Thumb11-17-05, 01:44 PM | Wasn't it in the Core FAQ? IIRC an adamantine shield is treated as two size categories larger for determining damage. |
| Jabberwock76111-17-05, 02:58 PM | It doesn't give damage reduction, but it would turn the shield into an adamantine bludgeoning weapon. The damage it would deal counts as admantine for bypassing damage reduction. I would consider getting a shield with spikes made of admantine and enhanced for extra damage. Then take some of the improved shield-bashing feats in Complete Warrior. The spikes would still take the +3000 gp that Centauri mentioned, but wouldn't count against the shields magical bonus limit since they're enhanced seperately! Go powergaming! :cheer: |
| Centauri11-17-05, 03:35 PM | Go powergaming! :cheer: Alas, it has been made clear to me that using a shield (unless it's Animated or a buckler with Improved Buckler Defense) is the exact opposite of powergaming. |
| Vestigial_Thumb11-18-05, 12:16 PM | Adamantine shields cost +5,000 gp. They also have a hardness of 20 and one extra HP. They also bypass DR as adamantine weapons. This is a fact and I rule! And also to support my hardass belief in myself: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20030221a |
