| TheDarkLord12-02-06, 07:24 PM | Adaptive Weapon Template The Adaptive weapon template can be applied to any melee weapon that has only a single damage type. The weapons damage, critical multiplier, weight, and reach all stay the same. The only change is the type of damage it deals. As a standard action the wielder of an adaptive weapon can cause a shift in the weapon to change it from its damage type to that of another. Ex: Long sword, 1d8 19-20x2 slashing becomes, Long Sword (dull) 1d8 19-20x2 bludgeoning, or Long Sword (thin) 1d8 19-20x2 piercing. Moderate transmutation; CL 9th; Fabricate; Price +20,000 gp. This is an idea I’ve been kicking around for some time. The price seems a little bit much, but I thought I’d start a little higher than I normally would since I’m not going to count this as a +x for a weapon. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas that would help me flesh this out a little bit more. |
| jaelis12-02-06, 09:22 PM | I'm inclined to say you need to count it as a +X. Because the better your weapon, the more valuable this ability is. (It keeps you from needing to use a different weapon, thus allowing you to concentrate your money.) So I'd make it a +1 ability. It's kind of weak for that, but it's also a way to get around one of the basic principles of DR, so I think you need to pay. You could probably make it a swift action to shift types, though. |
| Qube12-03-06, 08:06 AM | i sould also say that it loses the bonusses/penalties of a longsword (like weapon focus, ...) because, well a longsword that deals blund damage is more like a special club, then something else, and one that deals piercing damage would be something like a pick i presume. perhaps not make it a enchantment, but a material (if you read the books of MTG: flowstone is a stone that bends under the will) it could be an expencive psionic enhanced material that changes shape. |
| DarkRhystar12-03-06, 05:24 PM | Give it a +1 or +2 price and the ability to change types as a swift action. Reminds me of the +2 enhancement called Metalline which can switch materials a weapon is made out of on the fly. |
| enygmatic_me12-03-06, 05:35 PM | As I recently had this pointed out to me while trying to make stats for a weapon I think it should be brought up here. The Spiked Chain. It's one drawback is that it is piercing and thus can't be used to sunder with. Allowing something like this is going to change that. I don't think something like this modification/enchantment/template is a bad idea, but it shouldn't be simple. |
| TheDarkLord12-03-06, 08:08 PM | Hmm. I was trying to keep it away from the +x to ability, allows fighters to get a small boost in power as they of all people definately need it. I was thinking it would turn into more of a wondrous item weapon enhancment than a true weapon enhancement. As far as feats and such, I had planned on letting them continue to apply. The basic shape of the weapon wouldn't change, just the part that hits changes, no weight change no size change either. |
