I was inquiring with my DM to see if a first level spell could be added to a weapon as a continuous effect. His reply was a hesitated yes but it would take some research to do it. Does anyone know where i might find some information on putting continuous speel effect's on weapon's , I'm trying to add persice shot to my bow.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

1) You can sort of do what you want to do...

2) But NOT the way you worded it.

---------------

There are two ways to achieve what you describe.

Method I) Use the 5th level spell Permance to make:
Alarm, Animate Object, Magic Mouth, Invisibility, Shrink Item, or one of the Symbol spells permanent.

2) Research and create a new ability for a spell. FORGET about "making it a permanent spell". No, don't word it that way. Instead describe what you want to create, use the "spell" as a pre-req, and come up with an appropriate price.

The level of the spell used as a pre-req will have little to do with the price of the item For example, a True Strike effect is far more expensive than something like a Bull Strength affect. However, in general, most affects that resemble spells above 3rd level would be so powerfull that it would be an epic enchantment, if made permanent.

-----------------------

Describe what you want to have happen, and then we can price it.

I am not familiar with the spell you mentioned. Describe what you want it to do, not by name.

There is a weapon ability for precise shot, in Arms & Equipment Guide.
It's a +1 ability.

The spell effect I'm trying to add to my bow is from the 1st level spell out of the complete adventurer ( sniper shot ) the effect is that it negates the range limitation on the Rouges sneak attack. The effect I'm looking to do is to put this on the bow as a continuous effect therfore giving the Rouge the ability to sneak attack at any range while using the bow. Can this be done ? And what would the cost be?

I dont beleive the weapon ability of presice shot would be what i'm looking for as i already have the presice shot feat witch allows you to shoot into mele without the -4. Improved presice shot reduces that to -2.

Correct, you are not looking for the feat.

The spell is very powerfull for a rogue, but not powerfull for anyone else. Also, if I remember, the duration is low, so making it continuous would double the cost.

To make it with continous, unlimited range would be excessively expensive. (Probably an Epic ability).

Here are the things that sound fair to me:

1 attack, move action to activate, unlimited range, 1/day: +1 cost

1 attack, free action to activate, unlimited range, 3/day: +3 cost.

1 minute duration, standard action to activate, +30 ft to sneak attack range (30+30=60') , 1/day: +1 cost

Continuous duration, no need to activate, +30 ft to sneak attack range (30+30=60') : +3 cost

Continuous duration, no need to activate, unlimited sneak attack range: +7 EPIC ability.

Keep in mind that the spell has an INBUILT limitation. Taking a round to activate, you RARELY can use it when your opponent is flat footed (only by getting surprise and then wasting your surprise round to activate/cast the spell). That is why it is only a first level spell. By making it continuous, you negate this limitation, tremoundously increasing the power of the effect, allowing you to kill creatures from afar in the surprise round.

Thank you very much that is exactly whaty I was looking for on the spell effects.
I appreciate all the help.now i just need to see what the DM call on it is. :dancin:

Placing some sort of secondary enchantment on a weapon should only come after the weapon is a +1 weapon. Next, is...what do you want to do with the weapon, well you want a simple, yes it is simple :) 1st level spell that you want to be continuous...

I'd say making it continuous is overkill...using a move equivalent or even a standard action to activate an effect on a weapon, especially one so useful as this is...in my opinion, always worth it :)

Wow, but for once, I think that I might be saying something is more expensive than what's his buckets trumpet archon up there. In the DMG it says that any item to be made continuous that is based in rounds' cost should be multiplied by 4; however, they also say that any item based in 1 min/lvl should be multiplied by 2, but the item they make reference to lantern of revealing is not following this rule, it follows the standard rules given in the box at the top of the magical enchantment cost calculation box. The ability does NOT need to add an enhancement plus to the weapon, but it will add to the overall cost of the weapon which for non-epic standards cannot exceed a value of 400000gp, so you'll need to keep that in mind when you keep going with the pluses on your weapon and the total value of it down the road before lvl 21!

SO, I'm going to assume that they are making a distinction from use-activated, because there is definitely a difference. anyway, there is also nothing that speaks of how to handle the fact that it is ONE round, as there are price modifications for spells measured in roundS...but whatever. It is obviously something that is for use-activation, right? Right, it doesn't need continuous effects to be fully effective.

To be completely technical about this, it says CONTINOUS magic items are to be multiplied in cost; not use-activated. There is a massive difference between a cleric carrying a token that is constantly eminating a Zone of Truth, and one that muse activate the token when he wants it to be ineffect.

So, I have changed my mind after thinking about it more...they didn't use a multiplier for Lantern of Revealing, which is use-activated and not continuous, unless activated. My price for the item seems to match his suggested price of the item.

Here goes dude, the price of the weapon to be enchanted...the weapon should be at least +1 enhancement prior to being enchanted with anything else. So, the cost of the base enchanted weapon, plus the following:

Level 1 spell, so 1 times, the caster level of the spell, so times 1, time, 2000gp, duration of the spell being only 1 round normally does warrent some extra thought, but not too much and so not too much extra value, so, times 2 for the duration, and MAYBE times 4, but sneak attacks only apply to the first attack anyway, and it isn't like it give a new class ability it just augments it a tad more than usual...and yes you can get a +1 ability that would mimic this thing anyway on the weapon. SO, bottom line cost, either 2000 or 4000gp. your DMs call...
