Would the weapon have to be "disenchanted" then re-enhanced with the properties it had before plus the additional enhancements (thus costing as much as if bought new, minus the base masterwork weapon cost) or can you add the enhancement for the difference in the price (take price difference between a +2 sword for example and a +3 sword in order to add a +1 bonus to a +2 sword)? Peace, Geo |
| Tyler Do'Urden10-09-05, 05:17 AM | Yes, you can add new abilities. ADDING NEW ABILITIES A creator can add new magical abilities to a magic item with no restrictions. The cost to do this is the same as if the item was not magical. Thus, a +1 longsword can be made into a +2 vorpal longsword, with the cost to create it being equal to that of a +2 vorpal sword minus the cost of a +1 sword. If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a character’s body the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5. There's no rules for draining a permanent magic item to enhance another though. |
| GeostyceSwerved10-09-05, 05:34 AM | Thanks Tyler! I thought it was the difference but couldn't find it in the DMG. I'll have to dig some more as my DM doesn't use the SRD. Peace, Geo |

Peace, Geo The SRD is the Same Rules as in the PHB, DMG, and MM. Just there pieces of data missing that is exclusive to WotC only like Mind Flayers and Yuan-ti not being presented in the MM portion. The SRD is the base rules for the D20 system which D&D follows completely. But basically any company that wants to produce a 3rd party D20 product can use ANY of the material presented in the SRD without "copyright violation" as long as they include the OGL page and assorted stuff (I don't know the complete details since I have no real knowledge of copyright/corporate law). |
