| Draco00708-14-05, 01:03 AM | My DM and I were trying to figure out the ruleing on how to add abilites to armor... ie. its 3750 to add slick to your armor now instead of a +1 enhancement. So then if I wanted to add shadowed to my armor would it then be another 3750 or would it be the 1.5x as much ie 5625 as it goes with adding 2 abilites into 1 magic item like winged boots of striding and springing. My DM thinks that it would be the 5625g and I dont see why it would cost the 1.5 since they are just cash adds to the armor not specific items. Anyone got thoughts on this or where we can find a ruling on this in one of the books? and thanks for any and all help. ~Draco |

I believe that the reason for this is because it might be more difficult for a wizard to augment a magical item, than it is to create one. I might be entirely wrong, but if you look in the DMG, under the Magical Item Creation section, you might find the answer. Not to mention if the DM says it is a certain way, then the book loses. It says that you may add abilities to a magic item without restriction, but that if the item occupies a body slot (from the list on page 214) the additional abilities cost an extra 50%. Weapons and armor are not on that list, and if there were not an exception to the rule it would not have been needed to specify that only some and not all items cost the extra 50%. Try politely pointing that all out to your DM. |

So this is all house rules. At that point, the DM is all you have to go on. Without plusses, they are more like Wonderous Items and perhaps should be costed as such. Without plusses, you can get +10 in special abilites on non epic +0 stuff. That smells fishy to me. Also the full rules on multiple powers are more complex. Multiple unrelated powers cost 1.5x for the second, etc. Multiple related powers cost full price for the most expensive, 3/4 for the next, and 1/2 for the rest. What's related is mostly up to the DM. Furthermore, I think the Weapons and Armor powers are all costed at 1x. Except, of course, plusses are exponential. |
