| Corwise01-19-06, 09:52 PM | I'm currenlty playing a OO Samuri, and as such have my personnel ancestrial Katana which I continue to upgrade. My campain is a good orintated "kill the devils and demons," type, so I'm starting to run into problems getting through damage reduction. Since my character would never give up his Katana for a new blade, I'm trying to figure out how to overcome the "silver" and "cold iron" damage reduction I'm running into. The "good" DR I can fix with making my weapon a good aligned weapon, but I can't find any rules which detail adding a metal (such as silver or cold iron) to my sword. The DMs guide does say you can add a magical enhancement to a standard blade if you pay the cost (ie making a +1 sword a +2), but I can't find anything about adding a bit of silver to the sword. It doesn't seem like it would be workable, but I'm trying to figure out a way to overcome the DR without having to pull out a bow and arrow. Thanks. |

Either the weapon is created that way, or it's not. However, alchemical silver can be applied to a weapon later. See the SRD description of Alchemical Silver under "Special Materials." |

You would then need to travel far into the mountains or some other inhospitable location to have another forged by some kind of legendary smith(s), a weapon specifically designed to kill this demonic foe your ancestral weapon could not overcome. There's some old story I've mostly forgotten where the sword given to the hero by his teacher (or father?) breaks by the blade of the sword he himself forged when he's attacked with it. |
