Reading special materials in DMG, it says that admantine weapons and armor have a +1 enchantment bonus. Reading magic weapons, it talks about weapons may have special abilities, such as flaming. It goes on to say that a weapon with a special ability must have at least a +1 enchantment bonus.

I have always read this to mean that a flaming sword (+1 bonus modifier) would be a +2 sword when added to a +1 sword for an adjusted cost of 8000 gp.

If I were to make +2 admantine sword, it would cost 11,000 (8000 from +2 bonus and 3000 for admantine).

Now, can I make a flaming admantine sword for 5000 gp? (2000 for +1 bonus and 3000 for admantine) because admantine has a +1 enchantment bonus inherently?

Nope. You still have to place the +1 enhancement on it before you enchant it with fire. The poyent ability of Adamantine is a nice thing to have around if you are in some sort of antimagic field (beholder's eye) or someone thinks it funny to dispel your weapon.

I thought it was just that adamantine weapons were always "masterwork", so they had a +1 to hit (which doesn't stack with the +1 to hit and damage from a +1 magic weapon). I'm looking on page 283 in the 3.5 DMG. Did you misread it, or are you looking somewhere else?

You are right, I misread it. I thought that admantine had an inherent enchantment bonus, but it is only the masterwork bonus. Sorry for wasting your time. Thanks again for pointing it out to me.

Reread the Adamantine entry in the DMG and read the words more carefully. You've misread a very important word there (bold and italics mine). The word used is enhancement bonus of +1 to attack rolls (weapons) and a reduction of 1 to Armour Check penalty for armour.
This is simply a property of the item being masterwork, not Adamantine.

In order to have a magic effect on the item, it has to first be enchanted to a minimum of +1; like normal weapons/armour, then special abilities, such as Flaming may be added.

So, for example, Adamantine Full Plate offers the standard Full Plate AC bonus, weight, etc, with ACP reduced by 1 and inferring DR 3/-. To get +1 Light Fortification Adamantine Full Plate would cost the 20,500gp (15,000 (Adamantine) + 1,500(Full Plate) + 4000 (+2 enchantment equivelent)).
A +1 Flaming Adamantine Longsword would cost 11,015gp (3,000 (Adamantine) + 15 (longsword) + 8000 (+2 enchantment equivelent)); whereas a +1 Adamantine Longsword would be 5,015gp (+1 enchantment = 2000gp).

EDIT - and it was taken care of while I looked up specific numbers :P

I do not have the DM guide but in our campain we have weapons that have no enhancement bonus but just the attributes like flaming, frost, etc.

Can you tell me where in the dm guide I can find that rule to point that to my dm on our next D&D session ?

Forget I asked, I just find the rule on d20srd.org.

I don't know what will happen to our weapon that are like that. :(

My suggestion is to find the gold to make the +1 :P or, your weapons will lose a +1 enchantment ability to gain the straight up enchantment, which you can replace later. Of just keep house ruling it. Whatever :P

turn them into limited use items ... like wands.
