| Kanachi11-06-06, 02:31 PM | I want some advice on a weapon I want to make. Its basically a scimitar with a invisible blade (though the wielder can always see the blade). It’s also made from a special type of crystal thats extremely sharp and light. The weapon is basically a +1 scimitar which denies your target their dexterity bonus to AC unless they make DC 25 spot check. A spell of true seeing also allows the target to ignore this effect. Its got a monstrous 18-20 x4 critical multiplier BUT if at any time the weapon scores such a critical hit it will sunder. As the weapon shatters it I want it to incurs 1d8 points of slashing damage to the wielder and all within 5 foot of his/her location. How do you think such a weapon should cost? Thankyou! |

Err... at first, I thought you were talking about the PrC... Anyways... seriously, this is broken, even if it sunders. All you do is get a ring or some such with a spell to put it back together, and continue to use it... not only that, but a sword that catches someone flatfooted at all times... tell me why it catches them flatfooted? |
| Kanachi11-06-06, 06:06 PM | Well the idea would be that it "cant" be remade. It catches you flat footed because you can’t see the blade, thus you don’t know how to dodge it. If you spot the blade (spot check) or have spells that allow you to see invisible things then obviously it has no effect. So your not always caught flat-footed. A DC 25 spot check is not very hard for a mid to high level rouge type character anyway (who would be most effected by the weapon) so I don’t see it as that crazy. Obviously this is not intended as a low level weapon, more a mid-high kinda thing. |
| SephDragoon11-06-06, 09:00 PM | you have a very loose interpretation of how invisibility works. The "invisible blade" would be pretty weak if you ask me for catching flatfooted. Heck, the reason you make soemone flatfooted is when they can't defend, or can't see YOU. COnsidering they can see your hand and the handle of the weapon, this may works once or twice on a single enemy before they realise, oh wow, that thing cuts... If anything it is a trick, nothing more than a parlor trick, that could work a few times, and then that's it. Catching flat-footed at all times is powerful, add that damage from a crit (1d8 isn't that big of a deal to the wielder imo). It may be cost prohibitive to make, but that isn't going to stop it from being horribly broken (and characters with the scratch to spare are going to have some fun with a few of those). |
| Ryu Katsuragi11-06-06, 09:12 PM | Not to mention, what kind of hero would fork out on a whole bunch of +1 weapons with a whatever enhancement because whenever he crits, he loses his weapon? No-one would go beyond +1, for fear of losing it. |
| altec_seeker11-07-06, 05:22 PM | OK i foud what you need to do to the blade.... make it a Blurstrike weapon!!! Races of the Wild page 170 to 171 :) |
