they be PIRATES!!!

ok what is the one thing that you get when you have pirates?
pirate ships.
so my question is that when in a standered Dnd campain and there just so happens to be pirates there what do you do with the ships and there traditionaly having cannons when there are, and you dont want to, none.

the only think i really could replace them is very very big crossbows or big magic wands that dont light the other ship i want to take for booty on fire.

much thanks for the info!!!

You switch to Viking pirating techniques. You don't get the pirates that attack to damage ships, you get ones who have very FAST ships that close, board, and capture the ship.

Also, land raids will be far more common.

Check Stormwrack or the Arms and Equipment Guide.

Ships can be outfitted with catapults, ballistae, and some other things.

You "steer" up next to them, and latch on with grappling hooks for your boarding party.

There were pirates in the Antiquity. I am sure Pompey never had to face cannons when he crushed them.

Pirates have always existed. They still do. They use whatever technology is available to them at the period : this means galleys and crude sailing ships in Ancient Rome ; sloops and schooners in the so-called Modern times ; motorboats now.
Around Madagascar and southern India, pirates used pirogue-likes even in the XVIIIth century.

So, it really doesn't matter whether you have cannons or not. It's all about style and behaviour.
