Obviously not the kind of thing everyone would want to put in their game but see what you think. Could be good fun

Also any thoughts on price and power would be helpful, thankyou!!

Air Gun

At first glance you could be mistaken into thinking this weapon was in fact an unfinished yet rather exquisite (if not quite unusual) crossbow. Mounted atop an ornate crossbow setting sits a solid silver tube with one end (closest to the wielder) closed off by a clear white crystal. The trigger mechanism appears almost identical to that of a crossbow however in reality it is merely a trigger for activating the charged magic within the crystal.

Once triggered the crystal releases a firm jet of air (through use of a gust of wind spell) down the tube forcing a projectile (needle or dart) at great speed.

If the crystal is twisted the barrel reveals a slot allowing easy and swift reloading of the weapons. After firing it requires 3 rounds for the crystal to recharge, once ready the crystal will gain a subtle blue hue.

The projectiles this variant of the weapon was designed to fire are metal backed thin glass needles. They are hollow and are generally filled with either injury or contact poison.

This particular weapon is also fitted with a modified and detachable spyglass which allows for greater accuracy and precision over a long distance.

Reloading the weapon is a move action, however those with the rapid reload feat may reload it as a free action. It’s important to note that a full 3 rounds are required between each shot before the crystal will recharge with sufficient power to launch a projectile. The wielder does not need to handle the weapon in any way to recharge the crystal and therefore can act normally within this time.

At ranges of over 30ft the wielder may take a full round action to fire the weapons with a +2 attack bonus.

Just to refrence equipment that is already around...

Weapon Damage Critical Damage Type Range Increment Rate of Fire Magazine Size Weight
Air pistol (simple)* 1d2 20 Piercing 30 ft. 1 1 Int. Small 2 lb.
Air rifle (simple)* 1d2 20 Piercing 50 ft. 1 1 Int. Large 5 lb.
Paint ball gun (simple) — 20* * 30 ft. Semi 40 Int. Small 2 lb.

Air Pistols and Air Rifles
These low powered weapons are used to fire darts or pellets, typically to deliver a chemical payload (see Craft (chemical)). They are very quiet when fired. Air pistols require a CO2 cartridge to operate, which allows the gun to fire 10 times before needing to be replaced (purchase DC 3).

Paintball Gun
Paintball guns offer a way for the average person to experience what it’s like to be in a “live fire” scenario, but without the possibility of taking lethal damage. A paintball deals no damage, but a successful hit will spatter the target with a large splotch of bright, degradable paint. Getting struck with a paintball stings and, if the target is not aware of the circumstance, they might believe they have been shot with an actual bullet.
A critical hit with a paintball gun deals 1d6 points of nonlethal damage.

Why make this blowgun thing magical at all?

Well it’s for DnD not D20… so unless you have compressed air canisters or some kind of hand pump (which would require titanic strength and a long time to use) you will need some form of magic to generate the air to physically push the object. Obviously in D20 you would simply by any number of other guns.

So this is basically a magical paintball gun?

Well yes kind of. I'm making it a bit more deadly than an airgun would be, but basically they operate in the same way. The air that pushes the projectile from this weapon is greater in velocity to your average pellet firing air gun of today.

Think of it more as a silenced sniper rifle/tranquiliser gun which just happens to use a powerful gust of air rather than gun powder to move its projectiles. It would probably be a weapon used by an assassin (or extravagant gnomish hunter) to silently deliver poisons to a target.

Just to reference equipment that is already around...

Thanks!

I'm not sure it I want to emulate them that closely though as my weapons supposed to be a little more deadly and styled more like a silenced sniper rifle/tranquiliser gun than a traditional air gun.

Thank you very much though! :)

Here is a link to find all about it in real world history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_gun#History

There were 15th century Air guns as deadly as a musket with better range and lacking the big Bang! and smoke cloud to give your position away they could operate in all weather (no gun powder to get wet and useless) they only required a slightly higher degree of machining to manufacture further on the down side it took a very skilled and practiced person to make one, average blacksmiths who could make a musket need not apply. So they were not able to make them in numbers to outfit an army.

wow cool thanks, I didn't know about such things. Of course my method is magical but I’m sure you could simply say that (if it were used in your champagne) it was simply a mechanical device.

To be honest I was just reading though the spells and gust of wind + projectile weapon just seemed to obvious not to make.

thanks for the info!
