Any ideas on how this might be achieved? Well, you don't really have to fly very high to get the extra damage as you only have to dive 10 feet to get it. So I think you could fly up about 15-20 feet to start your dive. Dive attacks are explained in the Draconomicon and in Races of the Wild under the new Raptoran race. |

A dive attack works just like a charge, but the diving creature must move a minimum of 30 feet and descend at least 10 feet. It can make only claw or talon attacks, but these deal double damage. === There was a Rules of the Game article, All About Movement, Part 5, (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040706a) that proposed adding double damage from piercing or slashing weapons, but this new rule makes mounted lance charges really, really bad. === If a flyer makes a diving charge of at least 30 feet (6 squares) and also loses 10 feet of altitude or more, it can attack only with a claw or with a piercing or slashing weapon. These attacks, however, deal double damage. === If you allowed that with a mounted lance charge and Spirited Charge, a lance would do x4 damage (x3 from Spirited Charge then another x2 from diving charge), or x6 damage on a critical hit. You could try to make the distinction between the flying getting double damage and the rider mounted on a flyer, but the mount and rider are actually treated as almost one unit most of the time. Your best bet is to read and disregard the error-filled Rules of the Game articles. |

I just remembered the distance of the dive needed from reading it in the Draco and RotW. :tiphat: |

You know what they say "Whether the stone hits the glass or the glass hits the stone, it's not gonna hurt the stone." |

You know what they say "Whether the stone hits the glass or the glass hits the stone, it's not gonna hurt the stone." You don't need any feats to make a flying charge. Weapon Proficiency is helpful, but not required. Same with Mounted Combat, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge. In D&D, there is no danger of getting injured when you attack -- unless you're attacking a creature with special defenses like a barbed demon or a creature with a Fire Shield spell active. And if you're using a weapon, there's no danger of the weapon breaking -- unless you're attacking a a creature with special defenses like a Delver or Caryatid Column. In D&D, if you hit someone with a fine crystal goblet, you can do damage to the target, but the goblet remains intact. Strange, eh? |
