I love the Rod of Viscid Globs from the MIC so I've made other items that also duplicate mundane alchemical itemes.

Candle Rod
Price (Item level): 300 gp (3rd)
Body Slot: -(Held)
Caster level: 3rd
Aura: Faint; (DC 16) Universal
Activation: Move (Manipulation)
Weight: -

This small rod is only two and a half inches long. Carved from a piece of ivory with a small silver cap on one end. There is a raised arcane rune of silver in the middle of the rod that seems to flicker as if lit by candlelight.

A Candle Rod is valuable to everyone from campers and trappers to farmers and adventurers. Running ones finger along the raised rune on the rod causes an inch and a half long flame to spark to life at the capped end of the rod. The flame lasts until ones finger is removed from the rune. To reactivate one just touches the rune again. A Candle Rod will work in any weather but not underwater.

Prerequisites: Craft Wonderous Item, Prestidigitation

Smoldering Rod
Price (Item Level): 1,000 gp (4th)
Body Slot: -(Held)
Caster Level: 9th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) Conjuration
Activation: Standard (Manipulation)
Weight: 1 lb.

This badly burned wooden stick looks as though it still smolders deep within its core. A faint smell akin to that of a bonfire wafts from this rod. Small strips of curled bark protrude from its surface.

A Smoldering Rod can be used to create the effects of a smokestick by peeling off one of the strips of bark still clinging to it. When a strip is pulled from the rod a small spark and popping sound accompanies its removal and ignites the stip. The strip burns quickly and is consumed by flame in one round. Three strips can be peeled from the rod a day and they regrow from the rod each day at dawn.

Prerequisites: Craft Rod, Fog Cloud

Rod of Boiling Goo
Price (Item Level): 1,500 (6th)
Body Slot: -(Held)
Caster Level: 9th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) Evocation
Activation: Standard (Command)
Weight: 2 lb.

This thin brass rod has grooves on one end to act as a handle. The other end has a perforated, hollow, silver cylinder with small arcane etching running around the end of it.

This rod, when activated, will shoot a sticky bubbling glob of black goo at any target within 100 feet. In the alternative the rod can be commanded to drizzle the same substance onto an object within arms reach. Once the glob strikes a target it bursts into flame and acts in all ways as Alchemists Fire. Treat this glob as a splash weapon.
A Rod of Boiling Goo can be used three times per day.

Prerequesite: Craft Rod, Burning hands

Rod of Corrosion
Price (Item Level): 1,000 gp (5th)
Body Slot: -(Held)
Caster level: 9th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) Cunjuration
Activation: Standard (Command)
Weight: 2 lb.

This thin crystal cylinder appears to have a corroded and pited metal cap at one end. An odd transparent liquid sloshes around inside the rod and seems to hiss whenever it touches the metal cap. If one looks closely they can make out what appears to be some sort of arcane rune on the top of the cap despite it's corrosion.

A Rod of Corrosion can launch a small stream of acid at any target within 100 feet. Once the stream strikes it's target it acts in all ways as a vial of acid. Treat this projectile as a splash weapon. In the alternative the stream of acid can be commanded to leak from small holes in the corroded cap so it can be poured onto an object.
A Rod of Corrosion functions three times per day.

Prerequisites: Craft Rod, Melf's Acid Arrow

Roaring Rod
Price (Item Level): 2,000 (6th)
Body Slot: -(Held)
Caster Level: 9th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) Illusion/Necromancy
Activation: Standard (Command)
Weight: 3 lb

This haphazardly shaped rod is formed from natural glass fromed when lightning strikes sand. It has a generaly straight shape and the glass has forever frozen in a form that resembles melting candle wax. When inspected closely small ghostly clouds can be seen inside the glass that flash as if still charged with electricity. Faintly glowing blue sigils adorn one end of this rod and the weilder feels a slight jolt from them whenever the rod is activated.

When activated a Roaring Rod shoots forth a marble sized ball of electricity at any hard surface within 100 feet. Upon striking a hard surface the ball zaps out of existance and emits a thunderous boom akin to that of a Thunderstone. The electrical ball is completly harmless and is just a visual effect.
A Roaring Rod functions up to three times per day.

Prerequisites: Craft Rod, Ghost Sound, Silent Image, Blindness/Deafness

With the exception of the Tinderbox those all look pretty good.

Tindertwigs are only 1 gold each, and weigh nothing, and if you really need to use more than 300 of them (the amount you could buy if you didn't buy the item) then you have some serious pyromania issues. And these Twigs don't last long enough to spread around the party.

Either the item is overpriced, or just not something anybody would consider purchasing.

Edit: Also, the spell for the "Boomstick" seems an odd choice, perhaps Shatter would be more "sonic" oriented, alarm doesn't do much.

Edited the price of the Tinderbox and changed the spells needed for the Boomstick as well as the name.

Any suggestions for helpful alchemical items I'm forgetting are welcome.

Bar of Rust
Price (Item Level): 2,000 (6th)
Body Slot: -(Held)
Caster Level: 9th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) Transmutation
Activation: Standard (Command)
Weight: 1 lb.

This square shaft of pig iron is so rusted and corroded it looks as if it will crumble to the touch. When picked up however it is as sturdy as a freshly forged piece of steel but weighs substantially less due to it's corrosion. Flakes of rust stream from it whenever it so much as brushes another surface.
The weilder of a Bar of Rust can break small chunks off of it with a command work and then either throw those chunks up to 50 feet away or crumble them onto a metalic object within arms reach. Once seperated from the rod these chunks act in all ways as a Rust Cube.
Three pieces can be broken off each day and the rod rebuilds itself each dawn.

Prerequisites: Craft Rod, Rusting Grasp

Honestly, if I'm spending that much money, I would probably prefer a lighter instead :P

Prestidigitation can make small flames (the old article about fun with prestidigation) so all the item has to do is make it Prestidigitate a small flame on command.

Rewrote the Tinderbox again. It is now an at will lighter type item. Raised the price back up to 300 gp because of it's function.
