| DarkJediReborn03-29-05, 09:10 PM | I have two questions regarding alchemical items. 1) Is there a certain formula for determining the cost of alchemical items? Something comparing the effects to a spell and then multiplying it to get gold cost? 2) Can a character with ranks in Use Magic Device "fake it" enough to create alchemical items? If anyone has input on these, please let me know. |

| tarkin03-30-05, 10:09 AM | 1) I have not seen a rule. Remember that Alchemical stuff is not "magical" and may work in an anti-magic field. And that it is generally all weak stuff - 1st level or lower effects. 2) No. Use Magic Device only allows you to activate magic items, it does not allow you to satisfy any other requirements, such as making them, or making alchemical items. |

As Tarkin said, no. UMD won't work by the letter of the rules. But there is really no strong reason not to simply abolish the "only casters can use Craft(Alchemy)" rule. |

I'm having to do that myself for useful powders, poultices and effusions that I'm creating (I'll post some here when I finish). 2. I agree with tarkin; UMD shouldn't compensate for being a spell-caster in the sense of the Craft (Alchemy) skill. |
