The Alchemists Steam Powered Repeating Crossbow holds 2 cases of 50 crossbow bolts at one time. As long as it holds bolts, it can be fired. Loading a new case of 50 bolts is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity. In order to opperate, a canister of alchemists fire mush be loaded into the back. Once loaded & used, this powers the weapon for 1d6+1 rounds (not including the round the fire is loaded), it needs to be used at once, or the alchemists fire is expended. Reloading a canister of alchemist fire is a move equivelent action. Operating a Alchemists Steam Powered Repeating Crossbow always requires two hands. There are 2 ways to opperate this weapon, in a straight line, or in a wide spread. Line: As a standard action you can hold down the lever, and fire 10 bolts in a 40 foot line. The closest creature in the line of effect is attacked by 5 bolts, the 2nd closest creature is attacked by 3 bolts and the 3rd creature in the line of effect is attacked by 2 bolts. Use the same attack roll for all bolts. Alternately you could half this number of attacks to make the line 10 feet wide, by swinging the crossbow slightly. Spread: As a standard action you can hold down the lever, and swing the crossbow wildly left & right, and fill a 40 foot cone with 10 bolts. The 10 closest creatures are all attacked by 1 bolt. Alternately you can half the width of this cone and attack each creature with 2 bolts. Due to the violent motion of the crossbow all attacks made with this weapon are at a -4. A strength check DC 15 is required each round to weild this weapon effectively, otherwise the penalty increases by -2, and an additional -2 for every 5 by which your check fails (1-5 = -10, 6-10 = -8, 11-14 = -6.) |

| crimsonwolf02-26-07, 06:05 PM | balance relly relies on how much this all costs to do ... but mybe a bottle of forever smoke changed to forever steam? bind a tiny fire elmental into it and a canter of everrunning water.... |

And I'd justify all that in mechanics with a +1 Quick-Loading crossbow. No new mechanic necessary, flavor your inventions however you like. |
