| Chronus1303-24-07, 04:53 PM | I know that I have read somewhere that alchemical items are not magical and still function in dead/anti magic zones. Can someone please tell me where I can find this information again? Or at least show me that I am wrong (with rules reference)?:( |
| draconic_swine03-24-07, 05:34 PM | The closest thing I can find is the description of an antimagic field (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#antimagic), which clearly states what is and isn't affected within the field. Besides, alchemical items are not magical at all, so logically they remain unaffected. |
| Chronus1303-24-07, 05:41 PM | Well, I've read that a few times but that doesn't state alchemical items in it. I am very certain alchemical items are not magical but I need to present proof to my DM. (BTW, Shapesand rules!) |
| Patrick Draken-Korin03-24-07, 08:33 PM | Proof? That alchemical items aren't magical? Man. I mean, Man... Well, for circumstantial proof, the fact that alchemical items don't have any listed aura for magic detection... Then there's the fact that alchemical items are in the player handbook, and though admittedly the everburning torch and holy water are created through spells, alchemical items are crafted. More substantially, the AEG (Arms and Equipment Guide) describes the differences between magical items and alchemical ones (namely the limitations on alchemy). It's 3.0, but applicable until updated. (page 35) If all else fails, I'd suggest asking for confirmation from the game designers (though I actually don't know how, having never needed to). I've always thought this was one of those questions with a "yeah, of course" answer, not one requiring proof. Dang. Though actually... you may want to check with your DM, that s/he hasn't houseruled that alchemical items are in fact magical (regardless of any proof you may find). I can't see why that would be, but I'm not your DM. |
| SALDAR03-25-07, 01:28 PM | Well, I've read that a few times but that doesn't state alchemical items in it. I am very certain alchemical items are not magical but I need to present proof to my DM. (BTW, Shapesand rules!) If they were magical, as your DM believes, then it would require an Item Creation feat to make them. Item Creation feats being those feats required to make magic items. Making such items does not require such a feat so they are not magical. |
| Chronus1303-25-07, 02:39 PM | All right folks. I managed to find my evidence. It's in the Complete Mage, page 134 under Alchemical Items, first two paragraphs. I know it must be in an earlier book since it seems like I've known this stuff forever. Oh well.:D |
