| Dandder2704-20-06, 07:37 PM | hey everyone, Im curently playing a nuetral wizard who wants to turn evil. But he plans on doing it secretly so that it doesnt interfere to much with the adventures that we do (have a paladin in party). I was woundering if i could get some suggestions on iteams to buy (or even spells to use) that would mask being evil from everyone (including a paladin) who trys to check. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |
| A Bigmouth Bard04-20-06, 07:44 PM | Lead shield or armor that's at least 3 inches thick. Plain and simple. :D |
| Dandder2704-20-06, 07:56 PM | Lead shield or armor that's at least 3 inches thick. Plain and simple. :D What exactly would that do?? |
| ReverendCow04-20-06, 08:06 PM | Lead shield or armor that's at least 3 inches thick. Plain and simple. :D Or if you want an option that won't make you look (ridiculous) like you have something to hide: Ccontinuous Nondetection Magic item: Spell level Wiz 3 x caster level Wiz 5 x 2,000 gp = 30,000gp Personally, I'd suggest getting a set of magic robes enchanted with Nondetection. You could also go with Misdirection, but Nondetection blocks all divination effects. |
| SilentOne04-20-06, 08:27 PM | Amulet of Nondetection is in the DMG, I think it's less than 30k gp. |
| Rulebook04-20-06, 08:38 PM | and its not lead 3" thick, its a thin lead sheet, set to quickdraw. or maybe a lawyer to sue the paladin to never use the power. (c'mon folks, its a good strip!) |
| DaMullet04-20-06, 08:58 PM | But that would set a precedent for all sorts of 'detect' spell lawsuits. There wouldn't be a single practicing diviner within 100 miles of any population! Think of the enemployment. What a nightmare. Best to just avoid it. Yeah, though, just get a nice armorsmith to put a thin lead plate behind your shield (if you have one). Oh, and SilentOne, the Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location(tm) is 35,000 GP. CL 8, Mod. Abj. |
| FireOpal04-20-06, 09:37 PM | How about a ring of mind shielding? DMG p.232 Cost: 8,000 gp If you don't mind using up a ring slot, this makes the wearer "continually immune from detect thoughts, discern lies, and any attempt to magically discern his/her alignment". I would assume this would include the detect evil at will ability of the paladin. Its creation spell is nondetection. A cheaper way to go, if you can afford the slot. ;) |
| Mitchell04-21-06, 12:26 AM | hey everyone, Im curently playing a nuetral wizard who wants to turn evil. But he plans on doing it secretly... Am I the only one that sees a problem here? A neutral character wouldn't "plan on" turning evil. They may slide towards evil and decide that they should get such an item, but someone who "wants to turn evil", already is, in my book. :) |
| Rulebook04-21-06, 12:28 AM | i almost think he means "coming out of the Evil Closet" but then why secretly? still makes no sense. |
| Platonix04-21-06, 01:07 AM | The player is probably planning for some traumatic event that just happened to warp his character's psyche. Things that the character never planned for can sometimes be premeditated on the part of the poor oblivious puppet's master. Example..."Hey, DM buddy, I've got a great idea for a character concept but it calls for my character's home village to be razed partway through the adventure, which causes him to lose faith in his god and whatnot. Any way you could set that up?" |
| Borris04-21-06, 03:46 AM | For 15,000 gp, Frostburn has the Mantle of Hidden Faith, which shields your faith, alignment, and patron deity from magicval detection. Base spell is undetectable alignment. Speaking of which, an item (probably a cloak or an amulet, maybe a ring) with a continuous undetectable alignment spell would be very cheap. It's a low-level spell, plus you get to divide the cost by two since it has a duration of 24 hours. If made by a cleric, the cost would be (Spell level Clr 2 x caster level Clr 3 x 2,000 gp / 2) = 6,000 gp If made by a bard, the cost would be (Spell level Brd 1st x caster level Brd 2 x 2,000 gp / 2) = 2,000 gp That being said, having an evil character in a party that includes a paladin is probably not a good idea. More often than not, it eventually ends with the PCs backstabing each others, a lot of dead characters, and a lot of unhappy players. Make sur eyou know what you're doing. |

So my character is turning evil (or already is whatever u prefer) and i was woundering what iteams would be helpfull when we do get together. O and thanks for all the suggestions so far. |
| A Bigmouth Bard04-21-06, 09:48 PM | To answer your question, Dandder27, in the PHB it says that thick walls of dirt, wood, and stone can block Detect Evil. But, a thin sheet of lead can block it just as easy, though I though it was a thinkness of 3" but I was wrong with that. :( |
| ReverendCow04-21-06, 10:32 PM | It's a low-level spell, plus you get to divide the cost by two since it has a duration of 24 hours. Where is this, in the RAW? I've never heard this. |
