I'm just wondering if there is anything one can make a Q-staff out of other than just plain old boring wood. I know there are a lot of alternate woods, but they seem like they were designed to be used in place of metal in various weapons and armors and they don't seem like they would give the staff any extra edge.

So tell me folks; what can I do to make my staff uber-cool?

(it's for a monk, btw.)

You can use Serren wood. This will add +4,000 gp to the cost of the staff and give it a nonmagical (Extraordinary) ghost touch ability. Serren wood is written up in the Book of Exalted Deeds, among other places.

the beauty of the quarterstaff and club for that matter) is that it is made of wood. its free, and easily customized. but, for flavor, i use bone in my arctic style campaign.

Well, you COULD carve them outta' stone, but it's really going to break after one hit... Darkwood is just fine, I think.

I was really looking for a way to get more damage out of it. I do really like the idea of a battlestaff, however (see post about new weapons, more or less)

It seems like mithral would be suitable for a quarterstaff.

My monk had one of Adamantine. I'm aware there's a rule stating you can't use metals on wooden weapons, but we saw no reason why this could not be done. He'd twirl it in the morning to strengthen his grip since it weighed many times more than a wooden one.

That thing cracked skulls just as well as it did a longsword. Cool as hell.

By the RAW it can really only be Wood or Bone...I suppose you could somehow trap and shape an elemental essence or use crystal possibly.....metals are out of the questions by RAW standards.
