So for example if the party Fighter (with no Crafting feats) asks the Wizard with "Craft Magic Arms & Armor" to make him a magic sword, the fighter could chose to pay the XP cost for having the sword made instead of the Wizard. That way, the Wizard isn't being penalized for helping out the Fighter. Of course, now I can't find any reference to this rule anywhere. I thought was either in the DMG II or the PHB II, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find it now. Did I just imagine it, or can someone help me out and actually point me to where this rule is located? |

I was thinking of the "Bonded Magic Items" section in DMG II, page 231. It describes a way for characters who might not normally be able to craft a magic item for one reason or another to create one through (apparently,) the sheer use of flavor text. And then paying the same as it would cost to actually craft the item in terms of gold and XP. In any case, it was the section I was looking for! :) |

Having ways to transfer the XP from the character who wants the item made, to the character creating the item. |
