| Necromas12-22-06, 06:01 PM | Searing: (+1 bonus) When activated, the enchanted weapon behins to glow red hot and radiate heat. The weapon deals an extra 3 points of fire damage on each hit. Does not multiply on a crit. Chilling: (+1 bonus) When activated, the enchanted weapon becomes icy cold and frost from moisture in the air forms on it. The weapon deals an extra 3 points of cold damage on each hit. Does not multiply on a crit. Vibrating: (+1 bonus) When activated, the enchanted weapon behins to vibrate extremely fast and emit a soft humming noise. The weapon deals an extra 2 points of sonic damage on each hit. Does not multiply on a crit. Not sure about what to call an acid or lightning version. |
| Drucilla_Rocks_my_Socks12-22-06, 06:04 PM | Sounds OK...though vibrating would lead to too many bad jokes (staves of vibration...) Elevtricity could be buzzing.. |
| Mitchell12-22-06, 06:40 PM | Electric=Charged? Acid=Corrosive? Seems reasonable. A guaranteed number slightly below the average damage for the same cost benefit, and less for sonic because it is a better elemental damage type. |
| mato_hibiki12-22-06, 06:55 PM | I think you're underestimating how good these new things really are. Get in one good crit with a searing weapon, then think about it. Or, better yet, get that crit in with a scythe. 2d4x4+3x4= ??? Anywhere from 8 to 32 plus 12. What you've got here, is much better than the crit burst options. Why? Guaranteed multiple on a crit, for only a +1. I'd take that any day. |
| CryoSilver12-22-06, 06:59 PM | This extra damage, if it functions likeflaming, would not be multiplied on a crit. |
| mato_hibiki12-22-06, 07:04 PM | :P Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's flat damage, just like power attack. So it gets multiplied. |
| Mitchell12-22-06, 08:48 PM | Good point, I didn't even think about that. I will have to reconsider. |
| Plothos12-22-06, 11:01 PM | Good point, I didn't even think about that. I will have to reconsider. :cool:No you won't. Just have the enchantment's description explicitly state that it's not multiplied on a critical. Problem solved. The RAW pulls this kinda stuff all the time. (Eg. the fact that a 10' reach hits two diagonal squares away, explicitly noted as an exception to the way things normally work.) Easy fix. |
| spiderboy412-23-06, 02:40 AM | what if u lessened the bonus to 2 points of fire damage and let it multiply. on a x2 weapon that is only 4 points of fire damage and a x3 is 6 or equivilant of rolling a perfect die for the extra flame damage. |
| draconic_swine12-23-06, 11:39 AM | If you state the damage is non-multipiable, the ehnacement's balanced. A +1 to hit is worth approximately +2 damage (see Weapon Focus versus Weapon Specialization), so a +3 to damage is like a +1 to hit and to damage, or a +1 enhancement on a weapon. Since this costs a +1 bonus, it's fine. |
| TanglePython12-23-06, 08:07 PM | may i ask...how come sonic damage is always less the lets say, fire and ice...how come it doesnt do 1d6 like normal or in the case of this guys new thing only 2 instead of 3? |
| Mosyali12-23-06, 08:16 PM | For the most part, things have resistance to Fire and Ice damage, but not sonic. Since sonic is almost gaurnteed to deal damage, even to constructs, it deals less. I guess the argument of Focus V.S. Specilization can be pulled here as well because sonic almost always will hurt the object, but fire, ice, electricity, and acid might not. |
| Turaj12-26-06, 11:03 PM | I like it, but instead of a +1 bonus ( since flaming weapons can deal more damage for the same bonus) have a flat gold cost, something like weapon cost + (800 to 1000) gp. |
| tarkin12-27-06, 10:33 AM | Turaj, that is a blatantly abusive idea. If you check the DMG/SRD, you will see that not a SINGLE weapon enchantment does that. All weapon enchantments are either "Special Weapons" with a set price or +x. If you check every single WoTC book, you will find NO weapon enchantment that 'works' when you hit someone has a seperate price. The reason is that weapon abilities work on a hit, not a standard action. But you are activating them all with a single action. And they HELP each other. That means that it is more valuable to put a damage booster on a +5 weapon than on a +1 weapon, as the +5 weapon is more likely to hit (20% more likely). Also, it is better to put a Flaming enchantment on a Shocking weapon, because then your total damage per hit goes up and you are more likely to kill someone. It is for this reason that ALL weapon enchantments that do anything when you hit someone or help you hit someone should use the +x pricing method Using a +x,000 gp pricing method results in blatant abuses. |
