| dauvis03-28-07, 09:32 PM | Was there an action that you could do called "refocus" or something like that such that it changed your initiative to what it would have been if you rolled a 20? I've looked in the PHP and I can't find it now. |
| MourninStar03-28-07, 09:43 PM | I recall that too, but I'm not sure where it is. Full-round action and it moves you to the top of the initiative order. I've never used it, nor do I know of anyone who has. After all, past round one all you're doing is trading off anyway. |
| SALDAR03-28-07, 09:45 PM | I believe that was a 3.0 thing. In 3.5 you have the Delay action, which allows you to delay your action to the initiative of your choice. |
| Archangel_Tyrael03-28-07, 10:17 PM | There's really no point to it. "I'm skipping my actions so I can go first--next turn..." |
| 1hitparry03-29-07, 12:07 AM | It's so you can setup a specific order, like you want to go after the enemy so that you can see who needs healing. Or you go after the enemy to see how he or she acts to determine whether or not you should actually fight. |
| Capt. Pixel03-29-07, 01:29 AM | In 3.0 you could Hold, Ready or Refocus during your initiative. Refocusing was a full round action and granted an automatic '20' on your next round. This was useful if you had used a Hold or Readied action earlier in the encounter and needed to get back to the top of the initiative on subsequent rounds. |
| Tamerlane03-29-07, 01:41 AM | "Delay" is what you're looking for. More info here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/specialInitiativeActions.htm Also, there is a feat in the Complete Scoundrel that lets you use a luck reroll to simply reroll your initiative altogether. |
| _SIN_03-29-07, 06:53 AM | Also, there is a feat in the Complete Scoundrel that lets you use a luck reroll to simply reroll your initiative altogether. I can see it now..... "The ogre draws his huge greatsword and starts to charge, only to stop two steps later with a curious expression on his face as he stares up at the sun. All of a sudden he lets out and almighty sneeze, allowing the 'lucky' rogue to act first!... :D Delaying actions can be useful. As a rogue, delay so your warrior can charge, allowing you to flank on your turn. As stated, the cleric may delay to see 'whom' needs more aide after all the enemies have attacked. Delaying actions to act in concert - like pulling two levers simultaniously to activate something or another. Delaying your actions so you can see which way the battle is likely to go before either engaing the enemy, or sneaking away... |

I've looked in the PHP and I can't find it now. It is in 3.0, an action that is incredibly helpful if you know how to use it, I think that it was so damned helpful for mages that they ended up taking it away. Yes, refocus exists/ed, just check 3.0 core PHB |

Yes, refocus exists/ed, just check 3.0 core PHBSince delay is technically better than refocus, I'm curious how believed it was useful. |
