Am I going nuts or is my DM misinterperating the rules? [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-16-05, 11:07 PM I was pretty sure that a weapon with Speed worked just like the extra attack from Haste and similarly to Flurry of Blows once the minuses are phased out. My DM says that if (let's say) my BAB is 15, with a Speed weapon I could make two attacks at +15 with a full attack, as opposed to 2 at +15, 1 at +10, and 1 at +5.

I checked Speed, Haste, and Flurry of Blows in the SRD, and they all used identical wording when describing the extra attack, but my DM was possitive that that simply was not how Speed worked.

So who's right?

05-16-05, 11:26 PM the speed bonus attack is an extra attack. a BAB 15 character with a speed weapon would attack at +15/+15/+10/+5

05-16-05, 11:26 PM When making a full attack action, the wielder of a speed weapon may make one extra attack with it. The attack uses the wielder’s full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This benefit is not cumulative with similar effects, such as a haste spell.)

You would get 2 +15 attacks, 1 +10, and 1 +5.

05-16-05, 11:30 PM My character has a great sword of speed, and I typically roll his normal attacks and then do the spead extra attack. In my case its +14/+9 then another +14

WHIRLWIND ATTACK: When you use the full attack action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at your full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach.
Here, it specifically states that you're giving up all other attacks. All the other abilities (Speed, Haste, etc) say "when you make a full attack" -- so go look up what a full attack is; it gives you all your iterative attacks -- "you may may one extra attack at your full BAB". It doesn't say you give up the normal attack routine in exchange. Nor does it say you use a full-round action to make two attacks at full BAB. It says you get an EXTRA attack.
