| BeeBlar03-07-06, 08:36 AM | ok here is what happened. i was a chaotic good character. my party went to fight a red dragon. well after my druid friend summoned a huge earth elemental and dropped it from the ceiling of the cave (80 ft) it killed the dragon and i just happened to be standing close enought as i am a fighter. needless to say i died. my friend got some of my blood to get me ressurected but the dm had a good plot for his stupity. when i was ressurected i was infused with a red dragon. i gained the abilities but i also changed my alignment to CE. what i was wondering is there an amulet or ring to change my alignment. ive looked through the DM guide and the pocket magica but i coudln't find anything. |
| Mentar03-07-06, 09:08 AM | Look under specific cursed items in the DMG, pp 274. Helm of opposite alignment. |
| BeeBlar03-07-06, 09:11 AM | i know about the helm but is there an amulet or ring that does the same thing....since i took the traits of a half dragon i would rather not wear a helm |

First of all, you cannot summon creatures without flight speeds in midair, nor in such a way that merely coming into existence will deal damage by falling, bullrushing, etc. Second, Ressurrection can't do crap like that- it affects one creature. The caster picks which one, and even if it's a random guess, the creature gets to decide if it comes back. There is no mixing. Your DM is being a prick for your party member fulfilling the requirement of a high-level spell. You only need a piece of the creature to ressurrect, and there are no requirements for purity. Or does your DM have other characters come back as "infused with bacteria" or "half-earth elemental from the dirt under your fingernails"? |
| Mentar03-07-06, 09:49 AM | Have one made, but before you do think about your new alignment, with your new alignment would you really want to change? Base the cost on the helmet, I believe it's X2 cost for a change in location for worn items. **Edit** I avoided the point about summoning in mid air, as it was not stated that is what happened. I also avoided the multipart resurection due to the chance that the DM was giving the player an ability he wanted for his character (half-dragon). What would have been funny is if they spent the money on the resurection, and the dragon came back. |

As I see it, each DM can incorporate anything in his own campaign the way he sees fit. They can think "out of the box" and not stick to the rules, you know. Just because the DM considered thsi an interesting story hook, doesn't mean he's a bad or noob DM. It's hsi campaign and if the players agree, he can do it. Don't be such a purist! Regarding summoning, yes you can't summon creatures in midair. I, however had let a player of mine Summon a Fiendish Dire Boar to crush onto a flyign Succubus. It was actually the only way they could defeat her, the mage having screwed up with his spell selection. So after a huge fight, I found it OK to allow them to do it. That was an exception though. Regarding ressurection. Heroes of Horror presents ideas regarding ressurection and how badly can things change during the process, from having a totally different alignment, to ressurecting a different person in your buddy's body! So I guess the DM wanted to add some flavor. That isn't so bad IMO. reagarding the alignment change... Sanctify the Wicked from BoED can permanently change your alignment to this of the caster (eventhough doing so will take long). |
| ClementWillowbreaker03-07-06, 10:06 AM | "Anything" is a bit too much leeway to give any DM. Unless he explicitly stated before the game started that HoH's twisted effects would be in the world, then he is just screwing with his players, not telling a good story. The fact that the players spent the extra money on Ressurrection instead of a cheaper Reincarnate means they expected (and paid for) a more predictable result. Also, changing a player's alignment randomly = bad. Requiring an obscure cursed item to fix it = worse. The fact your DM just gave you the Half-Dragon template is further evidence that he is a moron. |
| Eraleas03-07-06, 10:10 AM | Well, as long as the players are OK with it, I doubt we can do anything by arguing wether the DM was imaginative or just a morron... Having in-game conflicts due to different (non-compatible) alignment can really screw up a game... You might end up being killed, again just to be revived correctly! |
| Someone03-07-06, 11:27 AM | I still don't see why you can't change your alignment the old-fashioned way: behave like it. Okay, so you're CE now. Do some nice things for strangers, rob from the rich and give to the poor, etc. If you behave CG for long enough and consistent enough, then you are CG, despite what your character sheet says. Now, if the CE is a little draconic voice in your head telling you to do bad things, that would be interesting. |

Nobody likes you!.......Not listening.....We can kills them and takes the precious... |
| Eraleas03-07-06, 02:03 PM | Seriously now, once in an alignment why not roleplay it? It's not like it's something fluid as in "I'm CE but I behave as if I'm CG..." or else you'd be CG. There is absolutely no logic in being an alignment and playing as something radically different. Someone evil can't restrain from his evil actions just for the sake of being good again, unless there is some inner struggle (which would make him CN, IMO) or multiple personality, short term memory loss etc. |
| pres_man03-07-06, 02:17 PM | The helm works once and your alignment is permanently shifted, the helm then becomes a mundane helm, so you wouldn't have to worry about your PC wearing the helm continuously. Though, I don't very much if your character was CE, that he would want to change alignment. He now realizes his previous views were "unrealistic", life is tough and only the strong will live. He still values his friends (except for maybe the druid), but he is now ruthless to his foes, or anyone who stands in the way of his wants. |
| BeeBlar03-07-06, 02:36 PM | what the dm and i would like to happen is to have an item that would change my alignment to full me and perhaps a will save to make sure that i stay in that alignment and dont slip back to CE. |
| Thelandrach03-07-06, 03:04 PM | There have been a bunch of metagaming replies here, which makes sense, given that this is a metagaming question. For the non-metagamers out there: Your character doesn't know that he's Chaotic Evil, or that he wants to be Chaotic Good again. He knows he's different, and just wants to change. Why not just roleplay him as striving to return to his former ways, with the occasional lapses into the behavior of whatever his alignment currently happens to be? Have him pick up a Phylactery of Faithfulness to serve as a pocket guide to what he should really be doing, if the GM allows that. |
| BeeBlar03-07-06, 06:24 PM | i was looking through the pocket magica again and i noticed that in the cursed item section there was generic curses... and one of them was change of alignment. if i can pursuade my dm to make an item then i guess it can be done. thanks guys for all your input |
