Alright, I am making a mounted character and I wanted him to basically keep charging his foes with ride by attack and a Lance. The problem is that the Lance, while it is a very good charging weapon doesn't do enough base damage for me. Is there any sort of exotic Lance that either does more than x2 damage upon a charge or that has a better critical?

All I can think of is using a Large sized Lance, and then using it two handed while riding (meaning you have to ride with your knees only) or getting Monkey Grip to still use it 1handed or that item from the MIC which lets you use bigger weapons without penalty.

A Large sized Lance would do 2d6 base damage.

Taking the feat Spirited Charge will let you multiply your damage with a Lance to x3 while charging.

The feat Cavalry Charger (Complete Warrior) will let you do a little more extra damage if you make a good Ride check.

Power Attack, Weapon Focus, Improved Critical etc. can all help.

Of course, you could get other things, like enchantments and such too.

Bump up the damage to 2d6 and give it the same mechanic as the lance for being one handed when mounted and call it a Great/Mighty/Dire Lance.

But weild it in two hands and at least take your +2 from charging into a +4 damage with Power Attack.

Can anyone clarify if you have Leap Attack, can your mount jump using the rules for it (where you make a ride check or the mount makes a jump check, whichever is lowest) to get your 3:1?

For a mounted lancer, the base damage doesn't matter nearly as much as the damage bonuses.

Here's a level 6 human fighter/barbarian.

Feats: Mounted Combat, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge, Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush, Shock Trooper (Complete Warrior), Extra Rage.

Starting Str 16, bumped at level 4 to 17, enhanced by Gauntlets of Ogre Power to 19 (+4 bonus). With rage, that's Str 23 (+6 bonus).

Let's give him a +1 lance.

On a mounted lance charge, using Spirited Charge for x3 damage and Shock Trooper/Heedless Charge, his attack bonus is +6 BAB, +6 Str, +1 enhancement, +2 charging -0 Power Attack (because of Heedless Charge) = +15 total.

His damage bonus is +9 Str, +1 enhancement, +12 Power Attack = +22 total -- but it's tripled.

So his total damage is 3d8+66, for a minimum of 69, a maximum of 80, and an average of 79.5.

Do you really need more damage? Select the Reckless Rage feat. That gives you +2 attack and +3 damage (when wielding your lance two-handed), which gets tripled to +9 damage. That's much better than you could get with the most exotic lance imaginable.

Need even more damage? Weapon Specialization: +2 damage, tripled to +6.

Need more? Weapon Mastery (PH2).

So I think you're much better off spending your feats on different things, rather than Exotic Weapon Proficiency or some other feat to use a larger lance.

Leap Attack only helps if you are leaping. It doesn't say anything about increasing damage if your mount is leaping.

Like many have said already, the size of your lance doesn't matter as much as the charging feats and other special abilities that adds damage bonus or multiplies your damage. You might want to take a look at the chavalier PrC in complete warrior if you're going for a mounted charging type.

If I were to be mounted and using the lance in one hand, would I still double the power attacks bonus?

No. Power attack says that you need to wield a weapon with two hands to get the double bonus. While wielding a lance with both hands on horseback may seem odd to some people, it's perfectly valid as far as the rules go.

Well, I guess if I am just going to be reducing my AC with shock trooper then i dont exactly need a shield.

The character is for a level 12 game and I am taking up the Skylord PrC.

It's not the size of the lance, it's how you wield it. ;)

Since you're level 12, you might be able to select Combat Brute. Your first Ride-by Attack/Spriied Charge/Shock Trooper/mounted lance attack does x2 Power Attack and is pretty sure to put a big dent in one opponent. Your second one does x3 Power Attack and is pretty sure to take out another opponent in one hit.

A flying mount really makes a big difference in your ability to set up a charge. Try for an advanced dire bat with the Improved Flight feat so you can charge up-hill.

also you may as well take one level of war blade full bab int to flex and a stance that gives initiator to damage at 12 with one of war balde + 6 tripled to +18 also a maneuver that gives you +10 to damage x3 is 30

so for 1 level you get 48 damagefrom a stance and maneuver
