I have an idea for a weapon that ive been tinkering around with, And would like to get some imput as to how this wep would work and also how powerful people in general think it should be.

Here is the basic's of the weapon.

Name: Hand of Purgatory

Lvl. Can be used at an LVL
Weapon Type: Mace
Class Specific: Paladin
Stat Bonus: Adds 3 str and 1 Foortitude

Damage: (need input as to how much dmg it should be able to do, was thinking of a progressive dmg scale based on level)

Special Property: Is capable of Entrapping the Souls of Evil alligned NPC's (up to 10), The Weilder is capable of drawing upon a percentage(1%) of every Stored Souls total Stat Points. The percentage of Total Stat points Stored is then added to whatever Base Stat the Weilder Chooses.

Exchange of Souls: In order to Exchange one stored soul for annother the weilder must sacrifice a certian ammount of EXP.

Now, I have little more than the base idea here, and to tell the truth am not too Keen on item creation as of yet, so I really need imput here to help me decide how powerful I should be able to make the weapon, as I said I thought it could be a progressive weapon, so that It could be used no matter the level.

The actual Stats and percentages and the DMG caused per lvl are Trickey for me to determine whats fair at this point.

So it's a heavy mace. Can we say a +1 heavy mace? Ok

2000 gp

+4 bonus to Strength (odd bonuses are bad) = +16,000 gp
+1 bonus to Fort saves = +500 gp

The weird stat point thing: this is tricky. At most you'd probably get a +12 to a stat, but potentially much higher. A scaling power like this I would price as high as it can concievably go, which means pricing goes to epic, which you probably don't want.

How about you use a slightly different mechanic, where for each soul in the weapon, you can use Death Knell once per day, which destroys that soul?

This would be priced as 2*3*2000 = +12,000 gp

Total: 30,812 gp

Well, i considered something like that actually. Which I put aside as a different Wep called the hand of Judgement.

Basically its the exact same weapon, except instead of accumulated bonuses you are able to destroy a Soul, Causing High Dmg upon an enemy, but also slight Dmg to the weilder.

The Idea for the Hand of Pergatory, is that once the soul is released from the paladins mace, presumably, they will have aided the paladin and thus their soul is purified and goes wherever good place their religion tells them they go.

Wheras with the Judgement, they are basically sent to hell.

If having the percentage at 1% makes the weapon too powerful, then what if I droped the +str and Fort Bonus, and the weapons Only bonuses would be the souls stored therein.

So that say it is weilded by a level 1 char, and contains the souls of 10 Evil NPC.

The total # of stat points the creatures have is say 100, thus @ 1% the Weapon would only recieve a +1 bonus to whatever stat he decides.

Once the player reaches say lvl 10 and the total # of stat points contained becomes more like, 1000, obviously a +10 at lvl 10 would be a bit much, perhaps instead of 1% i give it .5% or lower, that way @ lvl 10 it would only give a +5 bonus, which isnt as massive.

Or perhaps a complex math equation like (wisdom / level * %)

Like I said, I havent been playing long, so I dont want this weapon to be "uber' right away. I wanted it to be a wep my char could have that would get better as he advanced in level. Thus at lvl 20 it would be a good wep, just as it was at lvl 1.

Basically im trying to invent a weapon that from birth til death will be a great weapon for my Paladin, without making him enter god mode.

Actually, if you had 10 average humans in it, you'd have 600 stat points, for a +6 bonus.

How about this: you are allowed to take the highest ability score amongst the trapped souls and use it inplace of your own?

That is to say, if you had 10 NPCs trapped, of varying Dexterities, you could pick the one with the highest and use it in place of your own. The same would be true for the other abilities, but you could only use the effecton one particular ability at a time.

Cryo thats an interesting Idea. as well.

How about this as a revision>

Name: Hand of Purgatory

Lvl. Can be used at an LVL
Weapon Type: Mace
Class Specific: Paladin
Stat Bonus: Adds 1 str and 1 Foortitude

Damage: (need input as to how much dmg it should be able to do, was thinking of a progressive dmg scale based on level)

Special Property: Is capable of Entrapping the Soul of an Evil alligned NPC , The Weilder is capable of drawing upon a percentage(0.1) of the Stored Souls Average Stat Points. The percentage of Total Stat points Stored is then added to whatever Base Stat the Weilder Chooses.

Exchange of Souls: In order to Exchange one stored soul for annother the weilder must sacrifice a certian ammount of EXP.

With this equation, the Total Bonus earned would not be nearly as significant.

lets say the Soul stored is a lvl 1.

(str+dex+int+agi+wis+cha / 6)

that lvl 1 has an Average of say 15 stat points.

So the total Bonus is 1.5 which since we always round down is a total bonus of 1

perhaps, to even the effect of the stat bonus, this weapon could somehow incur a penalty to the weilder.

and The dynamics of how to roll to see if you are capable of entrapping a soul.
I imagine it would need to be a wisdom Roll. But what exactly should the roll need to be in order to work.

of course, if you guys have a better idea on how to Make this work im all for it, as i said, im just tinkering with an idea here. I dont have anything set in stone.

If getting a derivitive of skill bonuses is too much, then perhaps the Soul could somehow Increase a stat in some other way. Tho i would want it to be able to become more powerful if a soul is exchanged, otherwise there would be no way to use the wep more than once.

either way, i will check back in later, so if anyone wants to read this and post some ideas on the subject i would uch appreciate it.
