| Tsh7776908-11-05, 09:24 PM | Another poster in another thread mentioned a Jaialai. An exotic ancient projectile weapon from IRL featured in Miami Vice. Anyone else see that thread? Due to the large scoop shape, I was thinking that it could also be sued in melee as a simple club. That would make it very intresting. A projectile weapon and a simple melee weapon all rolled into one, very convenient indeed. At any rate, I am going to run the following by my GM... Jaialai (Jai-Alai) (exotic ranged weapon) Projectile weapon stats as per warsling. Melee weapon stats as per club. Tsh77769 |
| xver08-11-05, 10:06 PM | Sounds like a Lacross stick. Which definatly are used as clubs, even in modern full contact Lacross. They could be deadly in the Native American combat sport / ball game. |
| Tsh7776908-12-05, 12:29 AM | Yes, a jaialai and a lacrosse stick are extremely similiar, with the lacrosse stick being bigger (longer) and I beleive capble of being used two handed. Now that you mention it the lacrosse thing might be the better and simpler way to go as people are far more familair with lacrosse than they are with jaialai. OK, then, lacrosse stick it is then. Same stats as above, more familiar name and imagery. Tsh77769 |

| Azzy08-12-05, 01:35 AM | This thread has just reminded me that I never knew I wanted an atlatl. How 'bout this: Range Simple Weapon Cost Dmg (S) Dmg (M) Crit. Incr. Weight Type Ranged Weapons Atlatl 1 gp — — — — 1 lb. — Atlatl: An atlatl is a throwing lever for javelins, designed to provide a javelin with better range and velocity. Using an atlatl to throw a javelin increases the javelin’s range increment by 10 feet (to 40 ft.) and its critical multiplier by 1 (to ×3). |
| Rulebook08-12-05, 01:43 AM | Jai Lai cesta (well, a more toy-ish version) http://www.punchstock.com/image/comstock/4550092/thumb72/ks8710.jpg Lacrosse sticks http://www.sports4kids.com/fiddlestx.jpg not quite the same thing. |
| Tsh7776908-12-05, 02:55 AM | No, I know they are not the same per se, but for game purposes, I would say that either could be used with the aforementioned stats. Is there any official WOTC atlatl? If so where? Atlatls's are also very cool. Tsh77769 |

The stats I posted above, I created when I was compiling weapons from the various books my group owned and started throwing some new weapons and some conversions of older weapons. |
| RavenDrake08-12-05, 08:09 AM | The Jaialai was me (Rare and Unique Weapons (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=477062), there's a photo in the thread of a real jaialai, though it's made of rattan rather than solid wood). At the time, I didn't think about giving the sling function as a melee weapon because of the other bonuses I gave the Jaialai... I still probably wouldn't, but I suppose a Modified version could be meleeable. I'd go with the lacross Staff(call it a staff) for combining melee and Ranged. |
| Tsh7776908-12-05, 08:54 AM | Thanks for the link and the inspiration. I enjoyed your previous thread. Some good thinking and imagination on your part. Is it your intention that standard sling bullets can be used in your jaialai or do they have their own ammo? The weight and cost appear to be identical to PHB sling bulletts. tsh77769 |
| RavenDrake08-12-05, 03:52 PM | Actually, I hadn't doublechecked it... The Sling Bullets are 1 silver for a set... the Jaialai bullets are more(5sp, just edited) because they are not simple cast lead, rather they are(in my world, at least) a lead core with a ceramic(Terra cotta or Earthenware) outter shell. They're much larger than sling bullets(each one being, approximately, the size of a baseball)... They should probably be heavier... I need to edit it anyway, to make mention of special Jaialai ammo... |
