| Sergikins01-16-07, 04:23 PM | one of players in playing a fighter, and decided on wielding a large anchor as a weapon. (used monkey grip, treated like a blunt greataxe.) he decided he wants to attach a chain to the end of the weapon to let him swing it around. I decided on this he can do it for a exotic weapon prof, (greataxe chain) the anchor chain is identical to a great axe chain. the great axe chain allows him to attack like normal, however, as a standard action, he may get one attack at his full BAB that has a reach of 10. when used in conjuction with whirlwind attack, it targets either all adjacent squares, or all squares it could hit with reach (like a long spear). if you use the reach function, you get a -2 on the roll to hit everyone targeted by whirlwind attack. cost 75GP any suggestions? |
| crimsonwolf01-16-07, 04:37 PM | umm how the hell does he have the streght to hold an anchor... must less get the momentum going to get the thing moving in the air on top of all that why metal are you using for the chain. the reach of this thing and ill say this guy has to many chances to get hit by aoo just by needing to get the momutoum going. AND ATLEAST to use this weapon he needs a feat to use it without penalties. and i mean somethign simalr to frostburns giant antler stick rules. |
| Sergikins01-16-07, 04:40 PM | ummm... fantasy game? btw, anchors aren't that big you know. I ruled the anchor for a fishing boat (which is about 2 feet long at most) is a small weapon the one he has is maybe 4 to five feet long anchors aren't enourmous. |
| ISLANDS_ARE_UBER_BROKEN01-16-07, 04:43 PM | I gotta agree with Serg, wolf. It's a fantasy game, don't worry about the laws of physics or motion, just worry at the problem at hand: Are there any problems with the way that the weapon is built? I think that this should work fine; a bit pricey however. It's an anchor on a chain, for pete's sake! |
| crimsonwolf01-16-07, 04:44 PM | yes but like any fantasy game i dont expect a 8 rating kitten to hold a sword much less anything weaker then 16 to lift up a anchor... cannot move while using this weapon... needs a feat to make an attack without penltys .... no one hit withen 5 foot unless he grabs the base of the anchor and smacks them........takes a turn to get it spinning mybe....and am sure knockback is going to be a questoin on this one.... am jsut seeing something near epic levels of stretght not a lev 1 chrac. |
| Sergikins01-16-07, 04:47 PM | oh silly me! i forgot I was talking to the player today, and there was one thing i failed to mention i told him, "sure, but you know how the bastard sword has a Str req of 13? this ones req is 17." |
| crimsonwolf01-16-07, 04:58 PM | Anchor Chain- This Infomous wepon was created more out of joke then to use in battle. The few the actully use it in battle are rare and have quickly learned the need to have Mastered this weapon. Haveing a Chain Made out of Steel and Anchor made out of What appears to be rusting iron.Attack with this weapon as if a a giant morning star ona string bashing into pepole. Tripping or disarming is less about wrapping aroudn as it is mostly about knocking them off there feet or hittnig hte weapon out of there hand. Due to its unwieldy nature can not be used when moving. One must take a full turn to start the mostion going in the chain and then to hit the person also by effect defaulting hitting anythign around you in the radius.*including allies* ill work on wepon stats in a sec |
| crimsonwolf01-16-07, 05:01 PM | 10ft reach Reflex save if in 5ft marker.... 2d10 damage umm... for now going to say x3-20 crit .... picking up the anchor and using it in close range both hands bashing 2d6 x3-19-20 |
| IrishRover01-16-07, 05:11 PM | As was mentioned, anchors vary greatly in weight, from the anchor of a small raft on a mill poind to the huge anchors that adorn modern aircraft carriers. Remember, too, many an anchor is a STONE, not iron or steel...stone is cheap. |
| crimsonwolf01-16-07, 05:12 PM | yes but this is a guy thats hauling it aroudn in battle and no stone aint cheap becuse it can crack and crap when your hitting pepole with it hehe.... atleast if i was DM ;) |
| ISLANDS_ARE_UBER_BROKEN01-16-07, 10:01 PM | yes but this is a guy thats hauling it aroudn in battle and no stone aint cheap becuse it can crack and crap when your hitting pepole with it hehe.... atleast if i was DM ;) Well this character has a strength score 18 (if I remember correctly serg), and I don't see the problem with moving with it in battle. If you can swing it, then you should be able to move with it. Also, momentum would probably carry you a lot. I think that just for fun, you have to make balance checks after a Whirlwind attack :D |
