| CommanderFalken08-22-05, 10:09 PM | Alright, so I was watching Hero the other night. The movie's kinda cheesy, what with the flying around and stuff, but I liked The main character's (can't remember his name)style of fighting with a longsword in one hand and it's scabbard in the other, so I decided I'd make a Combat Style feat like that. Please help with a name. Guarded Blade (Style) You have mastered the style of fighting with a longsword in one hand and it's scabbard in the other. You can use this for defense, and also learn to attack with the scabbard. PreReq: Two-Weapon Fighting, Two-Weapon Defense, Weapon Focus (longsword). Benefit: When you fight with a longsword in one hand and it's scabbard in the other, you get a +1 bonus to AC. This is increased to +2 while fighting defensively. You can also strike with the scabbard, taking penalties as if fighting with a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. This attack deals 1d6 lethal damage. What do you guys think? any suggestions for a name? Is it balanced? |
| ClementWillowbreaker08-22-05, 10:42 PM | Its +2 to AC while TWF and proficiency in something only slighty better than a sap (because its less obviously a weapon), and you lose it when you actually TWF. For three feats... Using a scabbard as a weapon is already possible, just a normal one is an improvised weapon. A specially made one that is also functions as a light mace is easily a simple weapon. And it would deal lethal damage. This should just be a flavor item. Seriously, this needs to be better. CW has a list of weapon style feats. They generally provide free combat manuevers or force saves against an annoying condition when you strike twice or such. |

| CommanderFalken08-23-05, 09:54 AM | Will Do. Vahenir, should the scabbard deal lethal or Nonlethal damage? I'm not sure. |
| Vahenir08-23-05, 11:04 AM | Lethal. In Oriental Adventures the ninja-to's scabbard can be used as a weapon and the book instructs you to use the stats of a club when using the scabbard in this way. A club deals lethal damage. I'd say go with that. |
| Calibron08-23-05, 07:48 PM | So the +1 to AC is in addition to the shield bonus to AC gained from Two-Weapon Defense right? |
| CommanderFalken08-26-05, 11:43 AM | Yeah, of course. I forgot to mention that. |
| Maraxus08-26-05, 08:46 PM | Most weapon style feats are also harter to get. I think this is a good feat - balancing wise. Yes, it is a question, whether the scabbard should deal leathal damage - I would say so. |
