So, although the menu items in Chapter 4 cover a wide range of possibilities, I was curious about a "pricing" method to help fit a given ability into one of the six menus.

If one were to calculate the equivalent "magic item cost" of some of these abilities, we could define the six menus with these costs representing the power level range. For example (I have not calculated these at all, just making up numbers . . .):
* Menu A: 0-2,000gp, Menu B: 2,000-4,000, Menu C: 4,000-8,000.
* Menu D: 8,000-12,000, Menu E: 12,000-20,000, Menu F: 20,000-28,000.
* Menu G: 28,000-44,000, Menu H: 44,000-60,000, Menu I: 60,000-92,000.

Or, perhaps in terms of spell like abilities:
* Menu A: 1st-level 1/day, 0-level 3/day
* Menu B: 2nd-level 1/day, 1st-level 3/day, 0-level at will
* Menu C: 3rd-level 1/day, 2nd-level 3/day, 1st-level at will
* Menu D: 4th-level 1/day, 2nd-level 3/day, 1st-level at will
* Menu E: 5th-level 1/day, 3rd-level 3/day, 1st-level at will
* Menu F: 6th-level 1/day, 3rd-level 3/day, 2nd-level at will
* Menu G: 7th-level 1/day, 4th-level 3/day, 2nd-level at will
* Menu H: 8th-level 1/day, 4th-level 3/day, 2nd-level at will
* Menu I: 9th-level 1/day, 5th-level 3/day, 3rd-level at will

Of course, these are just rough ideas, estimating and interpolating from the abilities already given in the book. It should also preclude such atrocities as true strike at will as a Menu C ability, and so forth, featuring calculations based not only on spell level, but duration, range and the nature of the effect.

But it's a start. Has anyone else attempted to generalize the Menus?

Why would even bother with such an ardious task? Want a better representation of the characters Wealth by Level when using one wuld be only thing i could think of. Good luck on compiling all that

Actually, "Placing abilities not listed in the menus on a Legacy item and getting it Right" seems like a great use of this sort of work. I love weapons of legacy to death, but the menus are finite. Putting something like this together makes it less finite.

Thank you, Lord Schpungus. Be it magic items, prestige classes, or weapons of legacy, I love the idea of being able to "create my own ability." To be able to take a concept, and implement it mechanically in a balanced fashion. My post was an attempt to initiate a discussion for exactly that.

Over time, I was hoping to compile the abilities, but did not want to start such an "arduous" task if it had already been done.

I had noticed a trend in the spell level vs. # per day vs. menu level, but I haven't sat down and crunched.
