| Grug the Just10-22-05, 06:30 PM | Next friday our adventuring party is going to be performing an assault on a Githyanki floating keep. I need help with a selection of spells that would make this as smooth as possilble. Here are a few things to keep in mind: My character is a 5th level cleric 10th level Storm Lord (so that's access to one eight level spell a day.) with the Earth and Weather domains. A wisdom score of 18 and would rather wade into melee combat than either fire spells from far away, or buff those that I am with. Also, I have the metamagic feat Quicken Spell(Phb). There are innocents in and amongnst the keep. We are expecting psionics to play heavily here. My DM is using the psionics/magic transparency rule. We have rudementary knowledge of the lay-out of the area, other than that it's heavily occupied, guarded, and possibly patrolled. The stronghold is a reinforced masonry keep sitting atop a hovering bed of earth. Here's what I was thinking so far. We all fly over using Wind Walk(PHb). My idea would be try to converse with them, mostly because we don't know the specifics regarding the apparent slavery of a large group of dwarves. I'd assume a fight would break out shortly thereafter. The fight won't be my doing. I don't anticipate a diplomatic end to their use of slavery, although I feel it would give us some edge as far as learning who may be in charge and either killing him outright or gathering as many of their forces as we can into one area.(We are very efficient at "swarm" fighting.) If the others don't go along for this plan I'd expect us to then sneak in fighting wave after wave of them fighting our way to their leader. In either case, I'm preparing a few Wall of Stone(PHb) to cordon off some areas. In the least this will force the gith' to use up some of their Dimension Door(XPH) abilities. For one of my two seventh spell slots I'll definately have to prepare Greater Psychic Turmoil(XPH). That spell not only drains power points, in a 40' emanation radiating from a point in space, at a rate of 1 power point per round per manifester level of the target it would then give me temporary hit points equal to what was drained. So, if I catch five of them in this an they are 5th level manifesters that means that while they are in the emanation and have failed their saving throws I'm gaining 25 temporary hit points a round. (Though I wonder if there was meant to be a limit to the number of temp. hp you could have) Anyway I've rambled on long enough about this. Any suggestions anyone may have are greatly appreciated. |

Also look into Opals of tunneling if you can get ahold of them. They burn a tunnel 10 feet wide and up to 30 feet long. with those you can bust up from the bottom of the citadel snag the prisoners and escape through the same hole. though as to how you escape with the prisoners i have no idea. I would think the better idea is to blow a hole through the bottom with the opals and slaughter the leader who logically would keep him or herself in the center of the citadel. At the minimum coming from the inside of the defences would leave you in an advantagous position. |
