Animal Companion and armor [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-08-06, 10:50 PM Can you get Barding or armor for a medium wolf. A ranger in my game has one as an animal companiom and just wants it to be safer because many of the battles I am throwing at them right now are big military affairs. This armor would probably only be used in that situation rather than in normal adventuring though. Any and all answers are appreciated.

11-08-06, 10:57 PM Sure can. Just note that there is a cost increase to make barding for a non-horse-shaped creature.

Giving barding/armor to an animal companion is an age-old technique to protect it. I had an ape with a Chain Shirt for the longest time.

11-09-06, 12:08 AM But keep in mind that they are not proficient with armour, so your choice of armour is usually limited to either masterwork studded leather or mithril chain shirt...:P

Unless I am missing something...And I might have the mage cast extended mage armours instead.:)

11-09-06, 01:16 AM I've always allowed modified magic items that would work for animal companions and familiars. So, basically, a "Collar of Protection +3", maybe with a "Dog Tag of Regeneration" attached to it?
