Animated: Upon command, an animated shield floats within 2 feet of the wielder, protecting her as if she were using it herself but freeing up both her hands. Only one shield can protect a character at a time. A character with an animated shield still takes any penalties associated with shield use, such as armor check penalty, arcane spell failure chance, and nonproficiency. Strong transmutation; CL 12th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, animate objects; Price +2 bonus
tarkin 04-27-05, 12:52 PM	That item is taken directly from them DMG. It is legal in all games that use the core rules with no adjustments. (including Gen Con and living city games). +2 is the price factor. Any item with a +2 price bonus costs a minimum of 9,000 gp An example of such an item would be +1 Animated Shield (It must be +1 before you can get any of the +x priced stuff on it.) It is priced the same as a +3 shield because +1 (required) +2 (for Animated) = +3. If you wanted the shield to be MORE powerfull, you could make it a +5 Animated Shield. Such a shield would cost +5+2 = +7, +7 costs 49,000 gp.
gwarath 04-27-05, 12:55 PM	Well he would need to craft a +3 shield. So it would cost 360xp 4500gold (if he already has the masterwork shield) and would take 9 days.
