Imagine a 4 armed race using 2 Greatswords. ... Cool, isn't it?

But, does it use Multiweapon fighting, or two weapon fighting, or either? I think either, that's only the warm up question.

But what is the Strength bonus to damage for the second greatsword?

Two weapon fighting rules speak only about weapons in your (one) off-hand, while it without any ifs sais, that a weapon hold with both hands get's 1.5 times your strength. But in this context, of course, it sais "both", not "any two" meaning "your primary hand and your off-hand". Maybe one should rule, that it's 0.5 for every off-hand, and thus 2 off hands = 1.0 times strength, but of course, that would be a house ruleing allready, I would prefer not to use, as long as there is a reassonable interpretation of the rules as written.

1. He would have to use Multi-weapon fighting, not two weapon fighting.

2. He has a -4/-4, minimum, not -2.

3. Do not go in expecting to get a Strength damage of x1.5 and x1.5. I would let you get x1 and x1.

But we don't know what his DM will do.

Agreed on Multiweapon Fighting(though, honestly, what creature with multiple dexterous limbs who's using mulitple weapons would have TWF and not Multiweapon fighting? Unless it's the virtual feat from the ranger...)

Personally, I'd have to view it like this: Weapon's weilded in the offhand get .5x your strength bonus... so I'd say the primary greatsword would get 1.5x as normal and the second greatsword would be .5x

That's assuming that you CAN weild a two-handed weapon in just offhands... I've never seen any creature do that, and I can't remember it being covered by the rules...

Here's what this DM would do:

The starting character should have a +2 to both STR/DEX and a -2 to two of CON/INT/WIS/CHA.

Since we'd have to use his STR modifier for strength-based skill checks (climb/jump etc.) The character's strength is divided among the four arms, with one arm being the domiated one (unless it takes the TWF feat, which would make it ambi, no make that multi-dexterous)

It could hold 2 great swords, but takes the same penalties for TWF that a two armed character would for holding 2 one-handed weapons. Damage .75x for primary hand, x.5 for off-hand.

It could hold up to four 1-hand or light weapons, with increasing TWF penalties for each weapon used during a full-attack. (Damage +.5,+.25,+.25,+.25) But allowing it to swing all four with a BAB less than +6, seems wrong.

Good to hear that, than one can make something beautyful up. ;)

Tarkin: I had said either, because it are only 2 weapons involved. But since more then 2 arms are involved, this makes sense, too. Well, really not that it matters. I would even give multi-armed Rangers the Multiweapon Fighting feat, so the only situation it would come up would be if arms are gotten later by a character who only had two in the beginning (when Grafts go totally wrong. ;))

Yes, -4/-4 would be it of course, since not all of-hand weapons are light.
This would be another interesting topic, if I was to use a Greatsword and two shortswords. In that case, one off hand holds a none-light weapon but counting the attacks - and not the hands that perform them, all off-hand attacks are made with light weapons.
But two Greatswords -> -4/-4. No question.

However the strength bonus is interesting. Of course as a player I would argue for 1.5 twice but as dm, I would give 1.5 for the primary and 1.0 for the secondary...

Hm, I would even allow an necessarily big weapon to be wielded 4-armed (For example a large greatsword by a medium sized 4 armed character (at a -2 penalty like when using a Large Longsword 2-handed)) and at 2.5 times the strength. Str*1 for the primary, Str*0.5 for the secondaries, combine as you wish. ;)

i'd definitely go with 1.5x and 1.0x

the attack penalty i'm not so sure about.

*Points toward Savage Species*

Cant recall exactly what page nor look it up since I do not have access to my books at the moment.
However I do recall with perfect clarity that there is a passage discussing this and it states that each additional arm adds a 0.5x strength bonus to the dmaage. SO with 4 hands you could wield 4 swords 1-handed with 1x strength on the main hand and 0.5x on the 3 off-hands, 2 swords 2-handed with a 1.5x strength on the main hand(s) and 1x on the off-hand, or 1 4-handed (yes its possible, same passage states that you can get weapons modified for use with any number of hands/limbs) with 2.5x strength bonus.

Not 100% sure about the attack penalty but I'd probably go for -4/-4.

Totally, I remember that.

Now what about a Thri-Kreen with Aberrant Limbs wielding a six-handed greatsword?

…3.5 x Str bonus?
