| Soceus05-18-07, 05:40 PM | not sure, but there's Stronghold builder which would give you the price for a blacksmith's 20 foot by 20 foot room, which includes an anvil, not sure how helpful that is. |
| shavna05-18-07, 08:33 PM | Look at the beginning of the equipment section of the PHB, at the trade goods. It should have a listing for the price of metals by the pound. Take the price for the metal you would like to use, multiply it by the weight of the anvil that you want, and then multiply that number by 3-5 to account for the creation process. So if the metal cost 2gp per pound and you wanted a 100 pound anvil the cost would come out to giving you a price of about 600-1000gp. I know that may sound expensive but it is reasonable considering the time and resources that would be required to make it. Even modern anvils can run at about $2 per pound on the low side. | Kyaran05-18-07, 09:08 PM | A traditional anvil would vary from 125 to 500 pounds. One cubic foot of iron ore weighs nearly 450 pounds. One cubic foot of modern steel weighs approximately 60 pounds. A simple 250 pound block of cast iron would cost 250sp, or a whopping 25gp. I'd say that the shaping and alloying of the iron could raise this to 50gp or more. Medieval technology doesn't have a lot to offer a block of iron. Remember, the silver piece is the nearest dollar equivalent in D&D. |
