The Elven Thinblade counts as light for weapon finesse. One-handed for other purposes, just like a Rapier :duel:

Logically, using most point-buy or percentage or whatever weapon creation system, you could create a martial light weapon with 1d8 20/x2, or an exotic light weapon with 1d8 19-20/x2 or 20/x3. It's up to your DM to accept that weapon.

The elven thinblade is not actually light, it's just allowed to be Weapon Finessed like a light weapon or rapier (also not a light weapon).

What about casting Enlarge on yourself, so that your shortsword becomes 1d8? Or even just playing a race with the Powerful Build trait.

d6 seems to be the existing cap for light weapons... I haven't seen a light weapon(outside of magic items, but more on that later) better than that. Quite frankly I wouldn't allow a standard light weapon with a d8, I just don't see a light weapon ever being able to have the momentum and strength to do d8 without intervention.

Now a medium light spiked shield with the Bashing special property does 1d8 20/x2... but that's about all I can think of.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I think since im helping our DM with all this stuff shes considering huse-ruling longswords. But if she sais no i can just resort to the thinblade. Thanks everyone.

I believe I heard that Dragon 352 had a d8 x20 light exotic weapon in its Savage Tide tie-in, but I don't have the issue yet.

Improved Unarmed Strike + Superior Unarmed Strike + 8 or more Hit Dice = a 1d8 damage light weapon which can never be disarmed or sundered and benefits from Power Attack.

Improved Natural Attack (unarmed) would make it 2d6. Versatile Unarmed Strike would make it any damage type.

Except that Improved Natural Attack doesn't apply to Unarmed Strikes on anyone but a Monk.

What type of dmg do you do without this feat, if you're a monk? Just bludgeoning?

If my memory of the DMG serves correctly, the Sun Blade can be weilded like a short sword, with all the applicable feats (possibly including finesse) and it does a d10.

Are you looking specificly for light weapons, or weapons that are finesse-able? Then there's the question of specially crafted, requiring special training, or normal off-the-shelf type of items?

Your hand plus a Ring of Might. Your unarmed attacks do 1d8 damage and you get Improved Unarmed Strike.

'Course, you can still Power Attacke. Unarmed is actually the best weapon in the game.

Right... thats why i wrote: " The Elven Thinblade COUNTS as light for weapon finesse. ONE-HANDED for other purposes, JUST LIKE A RAPIER"

If you are willing to take the -2 penalty for using a inappropriately sized weapon, you could use a handaxe or light mace designed for a large creature for the 1d8 (assuming the wielder is medium sized).

Except the weapon wouldn't be light for the weilder anymore, it would be one-handed because it's one size category larger.

Souba

Exotic Weapon---Cost---Dmg(S)---Dmg(M)---Critical---Weight---Type
One-Handed Melee Weapon
Souba-----------100gp----1d6--------1d8------19-20/x2-----5lb-----Slashing

This sword has two blades coming off the same grip. A souba follows the normal rules for weapon crafting. With the souba you get a +2 bonus on opposed attack rolls made to disarm an enemy (a failed attempt does not allow a return disarm). This bonus stacks with Improved disarm. This weapon can not be used as a martial weapon and can not be used two-handed. You can use the Weapon Finesse feat to apply your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls with a souba sized for you, even though it isn’t a light weapon for you.

For smaller or larger versions use the progression for the longsword

This weapon is one of my creations and is in my sig.

The off-hand side of a double weapon like the two-bladed sword counts as a light weapon.

Unless you take monkey grip. (CW)

One handed weapon becomes light weapons with a -2 penalty. if i recall

Not quite, Monkey Grip dosen't change how you weild medium weapons, it merely allows you to weild weapons one size category larger for the same effort as a medim weapon of the same size(thus a large longsword can be weilded in one hand, or a large greatsword can be wielded in two even though you couldn't normally weild a large greatsword). So yes, a large Short Sword, for example, would deal 1d8 19-20/x2 and still be a light weapon.

However, you could only weild it in that way with your primary hand as the feat gives no benefit to your offhand.

@jaelis: Good catch on the double weapons, I hadn't thought of that... though it technically only counts as light if you are two weapon fighting with the item.
