| Warlord_Draco01-28-07, 09:20 PM | his stats are.. Str 14, Dex 23 (gloves +2), Con 12,Int 12,Wis 8,Cha 10 Level 5 now and just finished up an adventure that earned us a decent chunk of cash (not sure exactly how much yet.. got artifacts.. not the magical kind..... to sell...)... so I'm wonder what i should buy.... I'm planning on goin Assassin and I can't think of any decent rogueish head piece... so would just grabbin a headband of int so i have enough for full Assassin casting later on be a good idea? |
| revaar01-28-07, 09:50 PM | hat of disguise. probably one of the most useful items any stealthy charactor could have. |
| itwasntme01-28-07, 09:53 PM | eh Read my Tread then again read this A dwarf fighter's thief skills - Open Door: Boot. Pick Lock: Bash. Pick Pocket: Mug. Climb Walls: Rope. Hide in Shadows: No. Move Silently: As If. Find/Remove Traps: Ouch. sorry i just had to say that funny thing is im not even a fighter fan ... |
| Warlord_Draco01-28-07, 09:59 PM | lol and your dwarf rogue is really a dwarf barb right? hat of disguise... nah I've got maxed disguise and bluff I can do fine... |
| Iver Gearsham01-28-07, 10:17 PM | Goggles of the Night or Blindfold of True Darkness. First gives you Dark Vision second gives you BlindSight 60 ft I like the Second 9,000 gp from A&EG. smoke fog darkness not a problem SA at will only Silents can stop you. |
| Warlord_Draco01-28-07, 10:31 PM | needing darkvision is kinda situational i can keep the blindfold in my pocket and use it when needed... |
| Warlord_Draco01-29-07, 12:03 AM | no suggestions on what to get for the other slots? and weapons? I havn't played a rogue since 2e.... |
| Iver Gearsham01-29-07, 01:51 AM | A Bottle of Air 13,000 gp or so, for under water, hiding in a sealed barral to get "delivered" to a secure location, stay inside Portable Holes for extended periods of time, Burning builds are a great distraction if you can avoid smoke inhalation problems, Buried alive. Boots of Striding and Springing 5,000 gp extra ten ft. of movement +5 to jump is always handy. If you can add in Spider Climbing as a custom item thing can get fun. Ring of Sustanance 2,500 gp gets you 22 hours a day for doing your best at running normal shmoes ragged trying to keep up, Eat and drink only for pleasuer able to survive harsh enviorments with great ease. Spider silk armor, Short sword of wounding 2d6 extra Sneak Attack +4 to hit and they lose a point of Con. Locking Wire Garrot from Song and Silents leaves them choking out their lives as you stand by take AO attacks on them as they try and get it off. So get a hold of Complet Scoundrale for the Rod of Ropes 4,000 gp awsome grappling hook tool that shoots out three direrant modes. |
| Warlord_Draco01-29-07, 01:56 AM | A Bottle of Air 13,000 gp or so, for under water, hiding in a sealed barral to get "delivered" to a secure location, stay inside Portable Holes for extended periods of time, Burning builds are a great distraction if you can avoid smoke inhalation problems, Buried alive. umm... nah Boots of Striding and Springing 5,000 gp extra ten ft. of movement +5 to jump is always handy. If you can add in Spider Climbing as a custom item thing can get fun. hmm maybe.. Ring of Sustanance 2,500 gp gets you 22 hours a day for doing your best at running normal shmoes ragged trying to keep up, Eat and drink only for pleasuer able to survive harsh enviorments with great ease. uhh don't think i need to run 22 hrs a day.. how about thinks that help me beat the crap out of people and/or help my sneakyness.... |
| Iver Gearsham01-29-07, 02:06 AM | uhh don't think i need to run 22 hrs a day.. how about thinks that help me beat the crap out of people and/or help my sneakyness.... When people a hunting you the ability to get a full 8 hours of rest in a mere two hours all without stopping to eat or drink, meaning you can avoid watering holes hunting time actualy eating and all the things that complicat life on the run, you should survive very well. If you have a DMG Shadowed armor is an enhancment that can give 5, 10 or 15 to your Hide skill checks. A simuler one for Move Silently. |
| Warlord_Draco01-29-07, 02:09 AM | my cleric friend in full plate can't keep up anyways we'd have to fight em... |
| Iver Gearsham01-29-07, 02:16 AM | my cleric friend in full plate can't keep up anyways we'd have to fight em... So make it look like you ditched the cleric circle around and stabb/shoot the heck out of ememy some break off to chase you out run them Hide circle around SA some more. |
| Warlord_Draco01-29-07, 02:22 AM | if i need to run for 22 hrs and don't get a decent chance to hide... I'm screwed anyways... |
| Warlord_Draco01-29-07, 06:45 PM | bump |
| ninja101-30-07, 04:28 PM | #1: Survival... do you guys have enough "Just in Case" potions and scrolls? Remove Curse, Remove Disease, Neutralize Poison... etc.. Caltrops, to both hinder persuit and to set up traps to draw opponents towards. (there's some spell in Waterdeep, I think, that can make some objects permanently invisible.... I gotta research that more... Invisible Caltrops sound nice... and easily recoverable afterwards with detect magic) Continual Flame... but that's replacable if you have a cleric casting Celestial Brilliance (great vs. undead btw). I like to use copper ingots and toss them around.. by hand, with a sling, or with Mage Hand. More save bonuses, AC and HP are always welcome... And yes, a Headband of Int so you have enough for full Assassin casting later on is a good idea... but maybe one worth pursuing later on... |
| Warlord_Draco01-30-07, 10:38 PM | well yea... by the time I'd be eligable to cast level 3 assassin spells a headband of int +2 should be cheap for me... well yea of course potions and such are nice.... and cheap... but i mainly mean items to wear that I'd spend the bulk of my cash on... |
| WinDReiN01-31-07, 09:31 AM | Ring of the Darkhidden, creatures with darkvision can't see you. |
| Warlord_Draco01-31-07, 11:45 AM | umm.. not even sure if im gonna run into a ton of enemies with dark vision too early in the campaign to tell... well guess noone is gonna list anythin to help me kick but... so basically im thinkin.. weapon - speed or keen (the dm is house ruling that my sneak attack is doubled on a crit..) head - headband of int (well when i get to the point where i can use level 3 assassin spells) Bracers - armor rings - protection and... well i dunno once we have a major antagonist.. sumthin that would help against him boots - elvenkind cloak - cloak of the bat (ok thats expensive.. elvenkind til im loaded.. lol) gloves - already have dex +2.. i guess just improve em later.. neck - .. i dunno... natural armor? |
| ninja101-31-07, 12:16 PM | oooh, with a house rule like that, I'd say grab a keen scimitar! Speaking of weapons, I'd recommend some backup weapons... Cold Iron Scimitar Silvered Scimitar Adamantine Scimitar (worth it for the durability... but replacable with a scarab of golembane... however, that would take up your neck slot) An amulet of natural armor is definitley good... along with a ring of protection. Belt, +con. Vest, +saves. Edit: what do you have in Use Magic Device? and do you plan on maxing that out? Also, I can't believe no one has said Heward's Handy Haversack yet.... I never leave home without one! Also, also, my ring of sustenance has been replaced by Heward's Fortifying Bedroll and a Create Food and Water spell.... (but I still worry about random encounters while going to the bathroom... weird huh?) |
| mvincent01-31-07, 01:40 PM | If your rogue is the party's trapfinder/searcher, then Goggles of Minute Seeing (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#gogglesofMinuteSeeing) is a must. This also seems to stack with a Lens of Detection (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#lensofDetection). |
| Warlord_Draco01-31-07, 04:00 PM | I've got 6 in UMD... so almost maxed.... and i probably will max it. |
| wonlee7601-31-07, 05:12 PM | At your level, you probably can't afford tihs but a Ring of Blinking or Ring of Invisibility are "must have" items for a rogue type. |
| ninja101-31-07, 05:19 PM | It's a DC 20 UMD check to activate a wand of any level. Cure Light Wounds comes to mind, but you could probably imagine some other good ones. The cure light wand is recommended by a lot of folks because of it's cheap "per casting" cost (that and other 1st level spells), but higher level spells might also be good for some offense. |
| halflingofthenorth01-31-07, 05:48 PM | choker of eloquence (greater) for your neck area |
| ForestBjorn02-03-07, 02:42 PM | I reccomend a nice wand of scorching ray or maybe have it elemental substituted to whatever you like. Since you can sneak attack with it. Also a little later a nice high level wand of sound lance will give you some mileage too. |
| razhan02-03-07, 04:01 PM | asassins dagger? silent moves armor? |
| Kayli02-04-07, 12:56 AM | umm.. not even sure if im gonna run into a ton of enemies with dark vision too early in the campaign to tell... well guess noone is gonna list anythin to help me kick but... so basically im thinkin.. weapon - speed or keen (the dm is house ruling that my sneak attack is doubled on a crit..) First off, Absolutely yes. To both counts. Of course this is a min +5 weapon. Keen first, its cheaper, and will increase your threat range. Speed just gives you one more chance to crit. Some have sugested a Scimitar, I will suggest a Rapier, same as Scimitar, but weighs half as much. Since str isn't your thing, how much your weapon weighs matters. As soon as you can get Power Critical, do. You may just make your DM rethink this HR head - headband of int (well when i get to the point where i can use level 3 assassin spells) Seems like your coverd here. Bracers - armor Real armor. It's a lot cheaper for the same thing. Unless you fight lots of Eatherial undead. Then go for the Breacers. my suggestion, Mithrel Chain shirt. Your Dex is no where near high enough to worry about Max Dex, and it costs 1/16 as much as Bracer for the same AC :D Also, you can add all sorts of neato abilities to magic armor that you can't add to Bracers, like Shadowed and Silent Moves. And it would still cost less then the Bracers. :D rings - protection and... well i dunno once we have a major antagonist.. sumthin that would help against him Spell storing or invisibility. The nice thing about spell storing is you can put what ever spells you want into them. Then you can change them latter. boots - elvenkind scratch what I said above (in the sword part that is). Get Boots of Speed (instead of on your sword). 1/5 the cost of +5 sword, so you can get the benifits of Keen and speed, for much less cost :D cloak - cloak of the bat (ok thats expensive.. elvenkind til im loaded.. lol) cloak of Resistance. Buf all your Saves. And its cheaper. gloves - already have dex +2.. i guess just improve em later.. You seem fine here. neck - .. i dunno... natural armor? [/quote] Good choice, or possibly a brooch of Protection. Energy Drain attacks su*k. |
| crimsonwolf02-04-07, 01:59 AM | I reccomend a nice wand of scorching ray or maybe have it elemental substituted to whatever you like. Since you can sneak attack with it. Also a little later a nice high level wand of sound lance will give you some mileage too. BAD BAD BADDDDDDDDDDD RPER ... sound lance deos what... CREAT LOUD SOUND....BAD BAD BAD ....... stick with flame or ice..... less sound ... ice even better can freeze eneybmes instead of having them scream in pain...... and as for high level....disingrate.... ray of obliteration... |
