I want to fight ooze, but I don't wanna lose my stuff to them. Ooze never seem to melt stone, and if anyone knows a resource that has effective stone weaponry, I'd appreciate it.

Boring.

Ive already considered the extremely ridiculous looking:

"Quick Draw from handy haversack greater two weapon throwing 7 club full attack technique!"

Not to be rude, but my question is "is there an effective stone material I can make a bludgeoning weapon out of?" Any pertinent information is appreciated.

By the RAW, stone weapons will have a -2 penalty to attack and damage, with a minimum damage of 1 (DMG, pg 144).

There is mundane crystal in the XPH; costs the same as masterwork, 8 hardness, 25 hp per inch. It does count as metal for druids so whether it disolves like metal is up to the DM.

You could also request you DM to create/allow a new special material; my example, feel free to use.

Azure Granite; stone material that can be used in place of most metal weapons, and such weapons are automatically masterworked. Hardness 10, 30 hit points per inch of thickness, offers a +2 damage bonus against aberrations.

Azure Granite is primarily mined by keepers of the cerulean sign, though it is common enough and useful enough that many underdark societies possess it as well.

Cost: includes masterwork cost
Light weapons; + 500 Gp
One-handed weapons; +1,000 Gp
Two-Handed weapons; +1,500 Gp
-------
and for those adventuring in eberron;

Byeshk-Veined Azure Granite; a very rare variety of azure granite, this material has hardness 14, and 33 hit points per inch of thickness, and both offers a +3 damage bonus against aberrations and surpasses DR as byesk. Byeshk-veined azure granite weighs 1lb more than a normal weapon of it's type.

Byeshk-veined azure granite is very rare and is as hard to craft as byeshk (increase craft DC by 5).

Cost: includes masterwork cost
Light weapons; + 1,250 Gp
One-handed weapons; +2,000 Gp
Two-Handed weapons; +2,750 Gp

Obsidian (volcanic glass): Favored for edged as well as blunt weapons as well as jewelry in the real world, used for Psionic enchantments in Dark Sun Realm

Blackrock: Found in Volcanic regions this odd stone in mined easily and is as malable under heat as metal, and comes translusent when exposed to electricity or electromagnetic charge or magical fileds, and a direct blast of magical electricity (such as "lightning bolt" spell ) on Blackrock causes a spontanous explosion that cause 1d12 damage per pound of blackrock with the blackrock evaporating from the blast. Copositing Blackrock with other substances for magic item use prevents spontanous combustion.

Diamond: There is the "industrial type" that could be used in a weapon, then the "gem quality" ones that make up less the 1% of all the Diamonds mined

Onyx: Also used mostly as Jewelry and ornementation, is said to have "magical properties" even before enchantment

If you go with stone weapons, you should consider getting Dwarvencraft items, from Races of Stone. Essentially, instead of masterwork for 300 gp. extra, you're paying 600 gp. extra to get MW plus +2 hardness, +10 hit points, and +2 to saves.

You could also find a druid who can cast stone shape to make something. I guess it would come with the penalties listed above, but it's another option.

Use ranged weaponry. It's almost always one-use items anyway, except if you are low on ammo and need every intact arrow you can get.

Or get a warhammer made completely out of a single piece of stone. For some reason, I like to picture a dwarf swigning a jade or onyx warhammer around.

By the way, does stoneskin make you immune to the acid of oozes?

I'm just wondering...

Use Ur (Weapons of Legacy).

You could also get flint or obsidian arrow, spear and javelin heads.

Then you have sling stones, bags of boulders especially.

There is stone plate armor in races of stone.

Stone hammers would make sense.

I declared Stone AGE weapons took the penalty. Weapons made of stone would just cost x2 or x3, for interesting effect

Obsidian is quite brittle and not very useful aside from use as an arrowhead.
Diamond is even more brittle. It shatters like glass.

Dwarvencraft may solve the problem.

The main problem with ranged weaponry is that on average there is no effective ranged bludgeoning weapon. Slings at best. And replacing magically enhanced light hammers would break my wallet.

It doesnt matter, I told my DM about my "angsty oozehunter half-orc" and he said ooze are stupid. He missed the joke.

On the plus side, if I find a DM that will allow it, boots of haste will allow me 8 clubs a full attack, for great justice.

Come to think of it, there should be a DR (diamond), requiring a magical slashing or peircing weapon made of magically hardened diamond.

Thx for all the help, I really appreciate it. But my half orc will have to remain a possibility.

I think you mean magically strengthened diamond.

Exactly, diamond that doesnt shatter like real diamond would.

For God's sake, what are you talking about?!

Diamond is very hard, the hardest substance I know of, and I believe that continues to be true. A diamond will scratch anything just about, even glass.

Its also prone to shattering, it can chip and otherwise be ruined by sudden force. Not durable, in terms of hardness or HP.

So to make a weapon out of diamond, you would need magic to keep it from cracking after every fight.

You need a VERY hard hit and to hit it in a very precise spot just to crack it. You could make it very hard but not inmune to criticals.

From wikipedia:

Unlike hardness, which only denotes resistance to scratching, diamond's toughness or tenacity is only fair to good. Toughness relates to the ability to resist breakage from falls or impacts: due to diamond's perfect and easy cleavage, it is vulnerable to breakage. A diamond will shatter if hit with an ordinary hammer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

An ordinary hammer does 1D3 damage. Which means diamond has a hardness zero and HP of 3 or less. Or a hardness of one and HP of two at most.

I would say that diamond needs to be magically strengthened to stand up to the rigors of combat.

And diamond is pricey, maybe it should just be a diamond edge.

Do not mix HARDNESS with TENACITY, guys. Scienceman47 and Savant_warlord13 are right, diamonds resist to scratching better than any other material but are almost as brittle as glass.

For good stone (age) weaponry, use the atlatl. It's a simple projectile weapon throwing darts made of wood with a flint head, but Aztecs could pierce through armored Spaniards from a great distance with them.

There are stats for it in Frostburn, I think, but you're better off with the stats of a light crossbow (it's really that good) with a x3 critical instead of 19-20/x2 and maybe a shorter range.

For more info about atlatls, please visit www.atlatl.com and not some crappy Wikipedia article. The guy from this site even discovered why modern replicas of atlatls suck so badly compared to records of ancient atlatls (the mystery lays in the flexibility of the dart and the use of a stone weight, but I couldn't explain it as well as the guy from the site).

Dont need no atlatl. Its very existance and name is a testament to the power of the department of redundancy department's power. And its a piercing weapon. Good info though.

I really wish some of my threads got about half of this response, and this isnt much response. I really did get all the information I needed for this particular subject.
