Anyone know which book has this armor enchantment? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm looking for the book that has the +1 (or is it +2) ability to reduce the weight of armor from medium to light etc.

I know it's referenced in the weapons of legacy book with Wargrid's armor. The first power the armor grants is reduced weight class.

I was thinking the enchantment was +1 for each weight category reduction. Basically I was wanting to get some full platemail that would allow a character to still use evasion.

Any help would be appreciated.

noooo I don't think you really do want to use full-plate with evasion...evasion is based on a good reflex save and a thus a strong dex score/bonus, which will be useless in full-plate. Get a nice mithril chain shirt and be happy.

Also, no, I'm not aware of a magical enchantment that will reduce an armor's weight category. sounds broken. just use mithril.

I know it sounds like I don't want to use evasion, but here's my plan....
I'm going to be a 4 fighter/6 rogue/ 10 kensai.

Kensai have the withstand ability which allows you to make a concentration check instead of making reflex saves. So assuming that check is succesful I won't take any damage from attacks requiring a reflex save.

Now that I think about it, the feat may have been from dragon magazine but I'm pretty sure it exists. The Weapons of Legacy book implies its existance from that example armor, and I seem to have remember seeing that enchantment somwhere.....

And what exactly would be the point of mithril armor?

Mithral makes the weight class one category lighter.
Mithral full plate becomes medium armor
Mithral breastplate is light armor
A Mithral Chain shirt is still light, though.

Mithral also reduces the spell failure percentage of the armor( great for spellswords), and increases the max dex bonus.

Maximum Dex Bonus

This number is the maximum Dexterity bonus to AC that this type of armor allows. Heavier armors limit mobility, reducing the wearer’s ability to dodge blows. This restriction doesn’t affect any other Dexterity-related abilities.

Armor Check penalty

Any armor heavier than leather hurts a character’s ability to use some skills. An armor check penalty number is the penalty that applies to Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Sleight of Hand, and Tumble checks by a character wearing a certain kind of armor. Double the normal armor check penalty is applied to Swim checks. A character’s encumbrance (the amount of gear carried, including armor) may also apply an armor check penalty.

Heavy armor doesn't affect reflex saves, as per the rules of the game. Max Dex Bonus only limits Max Dex Bonus to AC, not dex bonus to Reflex saves, tumble checks, or anything else. Armor Check Penalities also do not apply to anything other than skill checks -- they don't affect Reflex saves.

I am quite sure that armor enhancement that would reduce armor weight category does not exist, as it would have made it into all threads about weight&penalty optimized armor.
These usually recommend at least Mithral material (DMG) and enhancement "of Nimbleness" (Magic of Faerun, I think). Later only reduces penalties, it does not reduce weight category.

I seem to recall seeing an armor mod that increased the max dex of armor. I think it was +1 to raise max dex by 2 .. (or perhaps +2 to raise dex by 3).

I think that's the closest you can find short of mithral.

i remember theres a +3 enchantment called "Halfweight" that drops the armor category to light regardless of the original type.

but its certianly not a +1 or +2 (unless its also Illithidwrought, but thats a +2 on its own as well)

Mithril is your best bet, but Dragoncraft armor (Draconomicon) would work as well.

Yeah, Halfweight is certainly the best for this, while expensive. I don't recall which book it's in now. I have an epic character with halfweight mechanus gear.

Actually, max dex bonus for armor applies only to AC, not to skill checks or reflex saves

Halfweight is in the Underdark book.

Half-weight is +3 in underdark, +2 if illithidwrought (+2 enhancement). Changes armor to light, does not reduce any penalties or increase max dex.

Half-weight also exists in A&EG I think, but as a horribly broken enhancement.
