AoO against a charging opponent [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-09-07, 04:35 PM 3.0 PHB, pg 122, says that cgargung doen't generate an AoO. I keep seeing folks mention otherwise. Did this change with 3.5?

The act of Charging itself does not provoke an AoO.

Your movement during a Charge may.

EDIT: Unless you mean AoO's generated by by running through threatend areas, as opposed to getting whacked by the target.

04-09-07, 04:52 PM No, the Charge is an action. The movement that you make during the action still provokes AoO's as any movement does.

orc charges you- no AoO.

orc charges you with longspear- he leaves your threatened area (the 10ft) and you get an AoO.

orc with longspear charges you with longspear, no AoO.

orc smacks you with longspear, then you take 5ft step to slash him with sword, no AoO. (5ft steps don't count for leaving a threatened area)

orc smacks you with longspear, you make the withdraw(special double move) action- no AoO. (withdraw ignores the space you started in for the purposes of AoO.)
