01-25-06, 03:04 PM in 3.0 if you moved in to attack someone w/o charging you provoked an AoO. Am i correct in assuming that this is not the case in 3.5? that you only provoke an AoO when moving OUT of a threatened square, not INTO one? and that charging is not necessary?

01-25-06, 03:14 PM Assuming the person does not have reach (or at least, reach exceeding that of the attack you're using), you can approach them without provoking an AoO. This, of course, says nothing about provoking AoOs from other creatures.

If the opponent you are approaching has a reach weapon and you do not, then you will not provoke an AoO for moving into reach of his weapon, but when you subsequently move into reach of your weapon, you leave his threatened square, and then you provoke an AoO. Regardless of how many of an opponent's threatened squares you leave in one round, you only provoke one AoO from that opponent for the act of leaving his threatened square.

01-25-06, 03:15 PM Attack of Opportunities for movement haven't changed between 3.0 and 3.5 - though they did reword them in 3.5 to be (hopefully) more clear.

01-25-06, 03:17 PM I don't know the 3.0 rule but in 3.5 you only provoke moving out of a threatened square.

Not sure how charge would work with an opponent with reach though.

Provoking an Attack of Opportunity: Two kinds of actions can provoke attacks of opportunity: moving out of a threatened square and performing an action within a threatened square.

Moving: Moving out of a threatened square usually provokes an attack of opportunity from the threatening opponent. There are two common methods of avoiding such an attack—the 5-foot-step and the withdraw action (see below).

So even during a charge if you move out of threatened square you provoke otherwise it would listed along with 5ft step and withdraw.

01-25-06, 03:53 PM That's correct, 2E Pally. If you charge somebody with reach, they get to make an AoO against you when you leave a square they threaten.
