| stitchy150309-29-07, 10:19 PM | I was looking around and cant seem to find it so i figured id ask. Can a wizard cast a spell for his AoO, such as cast shocking grasp on an enemy that provokes an AoO. and can a warlock cast his eldrich blast for his AoO. |
| runestar09-29-07, 10:48 PM | There is an epic feat in the ELH which lets spellcasters cast touch spells as an AoO. Not sure if this is applicable to warlocks though. Spell Opportunity [Epic] Prerequisites Combat Casting, Combat Reflexes, Quicken Spell, Spellcraft 25 ranks. Benefit Whenever you are allowed an attack of opportunity, you may cast (and attack with) a touch spell as your attack of opportunity. This incurs attacks of opportunity just as if you had cast the spell normally. Normal Without this feat, you can only make a melee attack as an attack of opportunity. |
| Neutronium_Dragon09-29-07, 11:23 PM | In short, under normal circumstances, you can't cast a spell as your AoO. You can only make an attack. The closest you'll come without that epic feat is that if you already had a touch spell cast and were holding the charge, you could take your AoO with that. |
| Sexy_ferret09-29-07, 11:51 PM | what if you have quickened spell? Can you use it as a swift or what ever action to cast and touch. If you threaten someone with something like a dagger or what ever? |
| Neutronium_Dragon09-29-07, 11:58 PM | No. You're still not able to cast a spell as part of an AoO unless you have something like that feat which allows it. One possible exception would be a spell which is specifically an immediate-action spell which can be cast when someone provokes an AoO - but that only works if the spell is originally written that way, since you can't do this with Quicken. |
| Salla09-29-07, 11:59 PM | what if you have quickened spell? Can you use it as a swift or what ever action to cast and touch. If you threaten someone with something like a dagger or what ever? Swift actions (like quickened spells) can only be taken on your turn, and thus are inapplicable to be used as Attacks of Opportunity. It may bear noting (I say, hoping to not confuse things further), that if you are holding the charge for a spell, you can make a standard attack as an AoO with that hand, and the spell will go off. But you cannot cast a spell as part of an Attack of Opportunity. |
| runestar09-30-07, 12:35 AM | I suppose if you could find some way of casting a touch spell as an immediate action...:P |
| stitchy150309-30-07, 01:06 PM | ok thanks a bunch for all the answers :) |
| InkBlot09-30-07, 10:20 PM | You can use psionic powers to take an AoO if you have the right feat. OPPORTUNITY POWER [METAPSIONIC] You can make power-enhanced attacks of opportunity. Benefit: To use this feat, you must expend your psionic focus. When you make an attack of opportunity, you can use any power you know with a range of touch, if you have at least one hand free. Manifesting this power is an immediate action. You cannot use this feat with a touch power whose manifesting time is longer than 1 full-round action. Using this feat increases the power point cost of the power by 6. The power’s total cost cannot exceed your manifester level. Normal: Attacks of opportunity can be made only with melee weapons. Check out the Expanded Psionics Handbook (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/966660000) and the psionics board (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=486266) for more information. The blast shape invocation eldritch glaive might allow you to make attacks of opportunity with your eldritch blast. I think it's in Dragon Magic, which I don't own, so I'm not entirely sure. |
