Simple question: If a character fighting with two weapons gets an attack of opportunity, does he get an attack with each weapon? I thought he only got to attack with one weapon (ie just one attack) but one of my players thinks he should get to attack with both.

I let him attack with both to keep the peace (he missed both times lol) but I would like to know for future reference.

Thanks for any help.

He definitely doesn't get an attack with both. It's an attack of opportunity, singular. You need to be making a full attack action to get extra attacks (see PH pg 143).

The rules aren't clear over when he can and can't threaten with both. The FAQ seems to suggest that this can happen even when not taking TWF penalties. YMMV as to whether this is a good rule.

Making an Attack of Opportunity: An attack of opportunity is a single melee attack, and you can only make one per round. You don’t have to make an attack of opportunity if you don’t want to.

An experienced character gets additional regular melee attacks (by using the full attack action), but at a lower attack bonus. You make your attack of opportunity, however, at your normal attack bonus—even if you’ve already attacked in the round.

Well, first of all, it says that it's "a single melee attack", which is probably enough to clear it up already, but then it also mentions "You make your attack of opportunity, however...", which implies that you can only have one attack.

There is a feat in the Minatures Handbook that will let a TWF use both weapons when making an AoO ... otherwise he can normally use just one.

Excellent - and the fact there is a special feat designed to let you take two attacks is worth knowing. Thanks.

There is also Dual strike to let you use both for a standard action. Note it has higher penalties than normal. (-4 instead of -2), can only get a single critical hit and just like Manyshot, no precision damage (I.e. you get one sneak attack, not two)

My DM ruled that I can not use dual strike to cleave. So I am wondering what the ruling will be if I get an AoO? :) I will try it next time that happens which is rare.

From the sounds of it (I don't the full text of dual strike) you could use it to make an AoO.
