| Count Arioch the 28th07-20-07, 08:22 PM | Alright, if you move more than 5' through someone's threatened area, you provoke an AoO, simple enough. What if someone moves you? Specifically, a hill giant with awesome blow moves a human 10'. Does the human provoke for moving more than 10'? |
| Salla07-20-07, 08:25 PM | Typically, the effect will specify whether it does or doesn't ... if it doesn't say, I assume no, however I have no rules backing on this. |
| BugHunter07-20-07, 08:30 PM | No, the AoO is provoked when you initiate the movement not the result of someone else moving you. |
| Merestil Haye07-20-07, 09:12 PM | No, the AoO is provoked when you initiate the movement not the result of someone else moving you. That is incorrect. If you bullrush an opponent out of a square threatened by one of your allies, you ally can take an AoO against the bullrushed creature. What matters is that you are changing position on the battle grid, not whether you were moving yourself or were forced to do it. Typically, the effect will specify whether it does or doesn't ... if it doesn't say, I assume no, however I have no rules backing on this.Other way round. The rules specify that if you move out of a threatened area you provoke an AoO. Movement on the map that does not provoke an AoO will say it does not. In the absence of text that says the movement does not provoke, you must assume that it does. |
| runestar07-20-07, 10:53 PM | What if someone moves you? Specifically, a hill giant with awesome blow moves a human 10'. Does the human provoke for moving more than 10'? Yes, if someone uses awesome blow and knocks you 10-ft back, you provoke an AoO if you leave a square he threatens. Look up the battlebriar in MM3. It specifically uses such a tactic (use awesome blow to make someone leave its threatened square, then follow up with an extra attack for the AoO provoked this way). |
| Nom07-21-07, 09:14 PM | Alright, if you move more than 5' through someone's threatened area, you provoke an AoO, simple enough.Let's also clarify this. You provoke an AoO whenever you move out of a square in someone's threatened area, unless you use a movement ability that negates this (5 ft. step, Withdraw, Spring Attack) or have any cover or total concealment. |
| Count Arioch the 28th07-23-07, 05:25 PM | So, the best reasoned answers seem to say that it in fact does provoke an AoO. (I'll have to tjeck the text that the battlebriar monster has, I own the book they are in.) Alright. If my players complain about it, I'm blaming you people :p. |

| StruckingFuggle07-24-07, 12:24 AM | Blame the rules, not us. :) |
| runestar07-24-07, 12:27 AM | Yeah. We don't write the rules, we merely interpret them...:P |
| tarkin07-24-07, 11:38 AM | 1. Bull rush etc. expressely state you take an AoO if someone else moves you. 2. There is a feat/ ability to throw an ally. That does not provoke an AoO. 3. There is a feat/ability to throw an enemey. That does not provoke an AoO. ------------------ I would rule as follows: As a general rule it seems to me that moving causes an AoO, even if you did not cause the movement. However, certain special abilities force you to move in such a way that you do not suffer an AoO for moving. |
