| Jager Mage11-03-05, 01:19 PM | Ok, first question: guy in our game is playing a drow psychic warrior/elocater. Through some elocater/psychic warrior power (im not sure which ones, never played a psychic character before) he is able to make himself large. He is weilding a scorpion chain, which it's my understanding that it is basically a spiked chain. When he goes large, he has 20ft reach. Here's my question: if a medium size creature uses the "charge action", actually CHARGES him, +2 bonus to hit and all, does the creature provoke AOOs when he moves out of the threatened squares at the furthest point of the drow's reach. Like, when he moves from the 20ft away square into the 15ft away square, the 15ft away square into the 10ft away square, etc. And can you give me documented proof as to the answer either way, if it exists? Thanks a bunch. My second question is simpler: Is there a feat/psionic power/class ability that allows a creature to make more than one AOO on the same creature in one round? |
| ShinAkuma211-03-05, 01:23 PM | 1) Movement only provokes from a given creature ONCE. It is one provoking action. Even with all that reach, your chain-weilding friend can only take one AoO for one movement. This can be done as soon as the opponent moves from the 20ft square to the 15ft square, or as late as from the 10ft square to the 5ft (adjacent) square. 2) If you have Combat Reflexes, you can take extra AoOs based on your Dex mod, so long as your target keeps taking provoking actions. |

From the SRD Provoking an Attack of Opportunity: Two kinds of actions can provoke attacks of opportunity: moving out of a threatened square and performing an action within a threatened square. Since this falls under "moving out of a threatened square", then yes it provokes an AoO. Thanks a bunch. You're Welcome. |
| Mirtek11-03-05, 02:52 PM | Since this falls under "moving out of a threatened square", then yes it provokes an AoO. Unfortunately you only quoted half of the rules :( You forgot the part that says such an AoO is only provoked once per round for the same opponent :P From the SRD Combat Reflexes and Additional Attacks of Opportunity: If you have the Combat Reflexes feat you can add your Dexterity modifier to the number of attacks of opportunity you can make in a round. This feat does not let you make more than one attack for a given opportunity, but if the same opponent provokes two attacks of opportunity from you, you could make two separate attacks of opportunity (since each one represents a different opportunity). Moving out of more than one square threatened by the same opponent in the same round doesn't count as more than one opportunity for that opponent. All these attacks are at your full normal attack bonus. |
| IceFractal11-03-05, 08:44 PM | You can only take one AoO on a given opponent for movement, but you could take multiple AoOs for multiple reasons. For instance, someone who moves through your threatened squares and then casts a spell while still within your threatened area provokes two AoOs. |
