So I;m looking to drop a nice new weapon into the hands of my party's ECL 24 rogue/assassin. I;m thinking +5 Throwing, returning Rapier that does some poison with each hit. like Black Lotus. OP? UP? whacha think?

A throwing rapier? As far as I am concerned, rapiers are not for throwing without penalty.

Make that a +5 ethereal reaver shadowstrike rapier.

The ethereal reaver property functions as ghost touch and allows the character holding it to see as if under a see invisibility spell. No longer will a simple greater invisibility be a foil to your sneak attack.
As for the shadowstrike property, it allows you, once per day as a swift action, to make a single attack with an extra +5 feet of reach. Better yet, the target is denied its Dex bonus to AC against that attack. And since the shadowstrike property is only worth 5,000 gp, you can feel free to increase the price to allow it to be used 4 or 5 times per day.

Throwing is a magic weapon property from the Dungeon Master's Guide. It turns any melee weapon it's applied to into a thrown weapon as well.

I think I like ethereal reaver... isn't there a magic property that lets you use sneak attacks vs undead and/or constructs?

a rapier without keen? BLASPHEMY!

I'd grab a Kukri, as you can throw them without having to add a property.

+X spellstoring, keen, (maybe returning) Kukri.
