So, I'm about to start working on an underwater campaign. Stormwrack has given me some help, but there is still one thing that I feel is missing; equipment specificcly meant for underwater use. Something that is uniue for merfolk, nixies, darfellians, etc. I don't mean to sound like I don't have any imagination, I just am out of ideas for this. If any of you have any that you think might work, please share. Be it a weapon, armor, jewelry, anything. Thank you in advace!

In the DMG there is a specific armor, it's called Armor of the Deep, it's full plate, just subtract the full plate cost and you have the cost for the ability, Also in the Magic Item Compendium there are abilities for weapons and armor, as well as an armor crystal that is water specific.

Kuo-toa has their own weapon designs, that fit well in underwater campaign. Pincer Staff and Steel Fins can be found from Forgotten Realms: Underdark, Kuo-toan Harpoon from Monster Manual 5.

I haven't played an underwater campaign in a long time, (2E) but the ideas might be helpful.

The story goes, we were in a storm, the ship capsized and threw all us air breathers underwater, the merfolk "rescued" as many as they could, and stuffed us all in these balloons that had air in them. turns out the merfolk were at war with the kuo-toa and the ship wreck was a result of a large battle and we were considered prisoners of war till we could prove our innocence or if we were traitors. Once we proved we were innocent in this particular war, we were given a conch necklace that enveloped our heads in a bubble that held all the air we needed. The film of the bubble acted as a filter for the CO2. The buble was fairly easy to see through, clear but moved with the surrounding water and the bubble is very tough to break. We were also given anklets made of coral to keep us from floating up to the surface. Not sure what spell they were imbued with to do this, maybe underwater free movement, but we could walk around and not be bouncing everywhere.

We were then given items based on our classes and what we would be doing.

Our cleric to be a healer and was given the tusk from a narwhal that was a wand of cure major wound.

Our theif (2E) was given a sharks jaw bone for a dagger.

Our ranger was given a whale bone long bow. the arrows were similar to regular above water arrows, but the effects were different. for example, an arrow of lightening sent electric waves through the water in a radius rather than a straight line.

I don't really remember too many more items, I do remember after the merfolk won the war, we were given the items we used and were tatooed as part of the army. the tatooing process was simple, a jagged knife was thrust into our arms, drawn around the arm and a squid was used to squirt ink into the wound to make an armband tatoo.

taking the items out was water required some preserving measures, keeping the whale bone bow in salt water to keep it supple, or it would dry out and break when you tried to nock an arrow.

Since all the items were from creatures or things underwater, they were all mundane and had free movement.

Hope this helps.

Will your undersea campaign be designed for native water-breathers, or for air-breathing core races using magic to explore the depths?
